Should give it a turbo diesel engine instead, i just can't understand why those car engineer, in order to move weight, high torque is what you need. I driven turbo diesel SUV with 200hp 470nm of torque with about 1800kg of weight, power wise i would consider it as "adequate"

How hard can it be? Bosch already provided the solution with their Common Rail CRS, now just need an engine block that is good enough as the foundation, source from mitsubishi can already, isn't previously some of those china car petrol car engine were based on licensed copy of mitsubishi engine. Previously Ford europe also source turbo diesel engine from Peugeot. Unless they wanna follow previous GM's mistake of converting puny petrol engine block for use with diesel, now that is certainly garanteed to fail.

Their prices are already cutthroat, having the need to buy tech that would charge premiums over each part produced would disrupt that. Also diesels cars aren't as popular petrol cars in china. Not to mention the need of a DPF or other methods to pass china's very strict emission laws

Even modern day petrol GDI is pretty much similar as a diesel just the operating pressure is not as high as diesel which can goes as high as 30000 psi vs GDI at around 2000-3000psi. Which is like diesel too has a high pressure mechanical pump and accumulator for the fuel rail. Most likely also sourced from Bosch if not Delphi then is Denso. Most likely also slightly less expensive.

Back then i also think that diesel is slow, but once i driven a turbo diesel car, i never look back, step on it and it goes effortlessly, paired it with DCT is like a match made in heaven. With more torque gear change also easy, cause don't even need to downshift, just lug it and let the torque carry you away. So I don't understand why diesel can't gain popularity. People say petrol turbo also produce peak torque at sub 1800 rpm, but how to utilize it? I test drive 1.6 turbo petrol car, give it 1/4 of throttle already downshift to 3k rpm.

Even in europe people are deleting the emission system, straight piped Audi TDI.
