QUOTE(horns @ Aug 6 2022, 12:21 PM) the price gap is narrow. unless you have plans to free up pci-e channels for other purposes, it's a no-brainer. also, it's better to use nvme vs sata, instead of m.2 vs sata, because m.2 has nvme and sata variants. edit: transcend mte220s 2tb is 790myr at shopee now. Yes just saw it, I’m looking at the 1tb capacity one and would the difference between gen3 and gen4 pcie be huge for normal usage? Without video rendering or editing etc.

QUOTE(Kelvin666 @ Aug 6 2022, 11:46 AM) Hi everyone, I am currently trying to get a SSD for my pc build and are torn between getting a Crucial MX500 or Kingston KC3000, it would be my main primary drive and since I don’t do any video editing, I have read that a SATA SSD is basically sufficient for my use. However, since the difference in the both ssd is around rm125, is it worth to get the M.2 instead of the SATA? I also bought a few months ago. Wanted 1 or 2TB and PCIe Gen4. In the end settle for XPG S70 Blade. 1 TB RM555 with vouchers and Laz bonus. This post has been edited by soonwai: Aug 6 2022, 04:12 PM

QUOTE(Kelvin666 @ Aug 6 2022, 12:23 PM) Sorry a typo in my previous post, should be MX500 which is also a dram ssd. Personally I'll go with the MX500, dram is helpful especially if you want to use it as a boot drive

Above 80c will have thermal throttle already lo i believe. At least this is the case for kc3000. This is the nvram temperature ya

I have it nstalled with a copper heatsink (in a laptop). Normal / gaming runs below 50c. So no complains hehe. It only gets up to 83c when i copy large chunks of files but i no longer need to do that so no biggie.

recently there are articles about ssds having 'excessive carbon footprint' compared to hdds, like this one, https://www.tomshardware.com/news/ssds-crea...han-hdds-reportthese articles are straightup flawed in many areas if you care to read them. imo technologies like hdds and ssds are here to stay. before there are better ones to replace them, it's up to us to find balance, so that they can work together to reduce carbon footprints. tbh, there are people already doing this for us.

2TB KC3000 vs. 2TB Fury Renegade
What's the difference? I'm leaning more to Renegade. Hmmm...how's the performance between the two? Thinking of going to Low Yat Plaza tomorrow to snag one.

I think Fury 20% more endurance than kc3000. maybe a little bit faster or equal to Kc.
