I need some help putting a ssd inside a usb casing and playing games from there is ok or putting nvme in nvme usb casing better?

nvme size pricing so far better one is transcend but price incrasing and limit to 2TB max size but crucial mx500 limit to 4TB.

Or should I just a get a 4TB usb hdd instead since its cheaper?

I alreafy try usb 2.0 flashdrive playing games. The game so slow until freeze. I'm playing online games.

What about vibration if suing external hdd?
*
USB 2.0 only 480mbps (60MB/s) . That only if the flash isnt crap. Obviously go for Nvme.

USB HDD is not great. Still HDD speed. 4TB is very likely a slow 5400rpm too.

USB drives, even 3.0 ones are painfully slow these days
all the good flash is reserved for ssds

usb drives only good for casual storage and file transfer these days

USB HDD is enough to play games in my experience

I tried putting my 2TB SX8200 NVME into one UGREEN enclosure. Results were atrocious because there was no proper cooling element. It slowed it down to like 18MB/s.
Even if you get one with proper thermal pad and built in fan, speed will max out at 600MB/s (USB3.2 Gen 1) or 1000MB/s(USB3.2 Gen 2).

What if I put crucial mx500 4TB into external usb casing. Will have I have cooling problem or playing games?

transcend max is 2TB nvme not enough for me. Current games and data already close to 1.5TB if I continue download new games Will exceed 2Tb in no time.

crucial mx500 4Tb size seem to fit me but I only worry about any problem playing games if I put the ssd inside usb casing.

Get a good USB 3.1 enclosure, it should work fine. Don't know much on this department. I've seen my USB 3.1 enclosure struggling to run on USB 3.0 hub. Had to use powered USB 3.0 hub to run it properly. Just be prepared to use powered USB 3.0 hub if your motherboard does not supply enough power.

I wanted to try Nvme but if the motherboard doesnt support/ perform worse than sata then I will go sata. I am familiar with sata ssd but nvme is kinda new to me.

can check, cos price diff ada beza. if sata i owes trust crucial mx500, bought 2 1tb drive already, latest buy 425 from shopee. 1tb nvme price can be vary from cheap 400-500ish to expensive 1k+ because the speed range is very huge diff.

tats y is see u wan buy nvme or sata. apparently a quick check that ur mobo support nvme pcie 3.0 ssd. NVME less choice below rm500 1tb for good drive, better invest abit more for non-dramless drive if boot drive.

i dont have any recommendation for 1tb nvme drive below rm500, if me die die must below 500, i will get 500gb instead and get a faster drive, than a dramless drive. samsung 980, corsaid mp510 should be okay to use. Would love to recommend adata sx8200pro 1tb but then, they changed the controller crippled the drive that used to be 1 of the better price/performance drive.

Transcend MTE220S 1TB at RM525. Unbeatable price for PCIE 3.0 M.2 . Same controller as Corsair MP510 and PNY CS3030.

Kinda unavoidable since all the major players do it these days (samsung, kingston, wd etc). Hopefully sn570 won't go down the same path so soon since it's newly launched..

Thanks guys for the inputs. It seems that choices for 1TB nvme within my budget is still limited. I may downgrade to 500gb ones for better choices like samsung 980 etc. or straight go for mx500 1TB. After all it will be for boot drive. thumbsup.gif

Samsung SSD? Overpriced like hell. Just look for these.

PNY CS3030
Corsair MP510
Transcend MTE220S

PCIE 4.0:
Kingston KC3000
Corsair MP600 Pro XT

Good DRAMless SSD is auto ignored. I don't like it using my RAM.
