hi guys,

can anyone recommend a 2tb m.2 form factor drive mainly for data storage? I saw the NV1 and it seems cheap at around RM938 but the tbw seems pretty low. is there any better performer for around the 1k price range? also not sure if it's still relevant, but i'll likely torrent files to the same drive as well though i don't torrent often

if non M2 form got 1k ish for 2TB

Transcend MTE220S 2TB at RM999 from viewnet.

http://viewnet.com.my/downloads/viewnet_diy_pricelist.pdf

Not recommended to run torrent on SSD. They don't like heavy writes. It also kills TBW warranty.

WOW this one has 4400TBW for 2TB! even more than all of the nvme's i've seen. yea i'd be torrenting maybe once every 2 months or so, so it's really uncommon. i'm more worried of data integrity biggrin.gif

hi all, looking for recommendation on 1tb ssd for storage, mainly games that i play quite frequently.

saw kingston nv1 going for around 400++, good enough for storage?

Currently im using 500gb ssd as main drive + 1tb hdd.

my gpu is covering the 2nd m.2 slot (b550m aorus elite) will there be any problem if i put the ssd on that 2nd slot? heating or w/e problem?

thanks!

DRAMless NVMe is still fine (there are good DRAMless NVMe drives like the SN550), but DRAMless SATA is a big no-no icon_idea.gif

I don't allow SSD to use my RAM too. So, still crap.

After checking during the sales on Lazada the past few days, just bought a Samsung 970 EVO 1TB. Just managed to use up the voucher I have collected previous. Total damage = RM593.

Thanks for all the posts from you guys in the thread. Learn a lot from it.

hi everyone, i wonder is the new samsung 980 nvme a good buy?
although its a DRAMless nvme (seems like there is not much performance penalty unless i do super intensive task) ,performance seems good for its price, around 6xx for 1tb. i wonder if there is any better alternative ?

Got myself a 2TB XLR8 CS3040 a few days back. Cost around RM996 after some 8.8 discount. Not much of gen4 speed but still better than gen3. Also the price difference.

This are the tests I did earlier. The one with the higher numbers is with the "NVMe SSD" selected in the settings tab. While the lower numbers is with the "default" selected.

I'm not sure which one to select for this test. First time doing these kinda tests.

Throwing in my other drives in here just for comparison.

Ended up accepting the package for the MTE220S 2tb. To be honest I was kinda surprised by the write speed since it was more than the advertised speed for 2TB model in the website

Hi everyone, currently my laptop storage is

Kingston A1000 NVME 256GB {60gb free now}
(OS, all the program I installed here like Office, Adobe Program - PS, AI, Pr, Internet Browser - Chrome, Mozilla, etc)

Seagate ST1000LM035 HDD 1TB {300gb free now}
(Others like document, download, pictures, movies, etc + Games)

If I change my HDD to 1tb MX500 SSD, will it drastically improved the speed of running Adobe Programs and others program like Internet browser?

Thanks

yes..changing from HDD to SSD will guarantee feel the difference

changing from one SSD (Gen 3) to another SSD (Gen 4) realistically have no difference in daily use

that's why people always ask to change from HDD to SDD if that's the only upgrade you can afford.. you can notice the difference

compared to change cpu / add ram etc
