M.2 PCIE 4.0:
Only WD Black SN850 1TB at RM1149 promo price.

M.2 PCIE:
PNY CS3030
Transcend MTE220S
Corsair MP510

M.2 SATA or regular SATA:
Crucial MX500
Kingston KC600
Samsung 860 Evo (only up to 500GB)
*
May I know the reason Samsung 860 Evo is only recommended up to 500GB?

Thought of getting the 1TB version at around RM600 before reading about this.

I see. Thanks!

Not sure about the price before this, but current price for the 500 GB is around RM300, 1TB = RM600, which I would say is pretty fair isn't it? tongue.gif

it's up to you my friend. for instance, for a desktop system, you can use nvme ssd, with a pcie adapter. it's also 1tb, but cheaper and faster.

RM689 at the time of writing.

Crucial MX500 1TB at RM465 with no effort of checking for cheaper ones.

The MX500 does seems like a really good buy here.

Just thought would the samsung have better reliability, performance & brand image?
Seeing that you have 2 MX500 1TB, would you care to share your experience with them thus far? biggrin.gif

Its fast for a SATA SSD drive. Samsung have more TBW endurance though. You can do more writes on Samsung.

maybe you should check event viewer and see what's wrong after you run cse

about warranty, maybe you can check out the support page of crucial ssd for more information. locally, there are few shops that offer warranty claims with a fee
check here.

Thanks. As for the warranty, nothing much on Crucial's website except for RMA.
Just check under windows log\applications, nothing related to CSE. I even tried clearing logs and run CSE but nothing showed on the event log.

if this is the case, then just wait for updates. since it's a known issue that has been reported by many.

as long as the ssds work fine, it's ok to run the system without it.

Looking to buy a 500-512GB NVME drive, with an eye for general performance and lifespan within RM400 or less. Avoiding ADATA due to all their stealth downgrades with the SX8200 Pro. I have a HP EX950 in another rig that works fine, anything more worth it than that HP drive that I should consider?

check out TristanX's suggestions at the top of this page. more worth it or not, you can compare their respective specs and make your own justifications.

i think transcend mte220s is good. on paper, it's very similar to hp ex950, except for mte220s having higher endurance ratings. again, these are on paper, so it's up to you to decide.

edit:

out of curiosity i checked out mte220s for chipset part numbers for ram/nand/controller. for 1tb model, mte220s uses samsung ddr3, and micron's nand, https://elchapuzasinformatico.com/2019/12/r...s-ssd-m-2-nvme/ (ram part number is K4B4G1646E-BYMA, https://www.samsung.com/semiconductor/dram/...4B4G1646E-BYMA/ )

however, for 2tb model, it has samsung ddr4, and transcend rebranded nand, http://www.vmodtech.com/th/article/transce...review/page/all (ram part number is K4A8G165WC-BCTD, https://www.samsung.com/semiconductor/dram/...4A8G165WC-BCTD/ )

i just post it here for reference. it's no wonder why they didn't put anything about ram cache in their specs.

I checked my EX950, it's using Nanya DDR3, IMFT NAND, same SMI controller as the original release of the SX8200 Pro.

Will keep the MTE220s in mind.

Look for Transcend MTE 220S or PNY CS3030. Nothing else.
*
This 2 is equally good, just brand preferences? Corsair mp510 also same range correct?

Transcent MTe 220S- RM1121
PNY cs3030 - RM1215
Corsair mp510 - RM1298

XPG sx8200 pro 2tb is cheaper. But they quietly change the controller speed for new batch? Possible to check which one is old stock and new stock?

You can assume new stock using the changed controller. I was lucky bought one during 2019. Has the original controller.

Neither. Look for PNY CS3030 or Transcend MTE220S or Corsair MP510 (if the pricing is good).

Just a reminder to everyone looking for SSD. You don't have to buy the fastest and greatest to enjoy benefits of a ssd.
Remember the QUOTE. It's stated everywhere: UP TO XXXX mb/s
That's right. it doesn't mean u get the max load every time. depending on what u re doing.
That means u can do without the latest new phison E18 Gen4 drives which promises UP TO 7/8k mbps. It looks great on paper and benchmarks. But it sacrifices endurance / worse than the previous gen drives.

And as a matter of fact; the 1st gen 4 drives looks more appealing now , their prices have come down AND it's endurance level is better.
