Hi guys, wanna some advise on getting a 2TB or 4TB NVME SSD, what is the current value buy? Still the KC3000?
*
Anything with SM controller. Phison based like KC3000 is prone to getting bricked even by windows updates. Stay away for now.

yesterday news said  some people manage to find the issue  root cause not windows update but beta firmware not sure what mean..

need to check lowyat news
*
Reviewers like Jayz usually get their stuff near retail ready so doubtful his problem is due to preproduction firmware as he also mentioned he updates his stuff. There are prolly more issues than just one.

Can suggest alternative for KC3000? Thanks
*
For Gen4 not many as Phison nearly monopoly all high end SSD. Only ones I know are Adata S70, Legend 960 max, Crucial P5 Plus, Samsungs, WD/Sandisk, Hynix / Solidigm.

Jayz came out to call BS on the 'solution' of the SSD dying and again he stressed that he will only use retail (or near retail ready) stuff for review so that excuse of pre release firmware wouldnt have hit him but he still had SSD failures.

Can't really go wrong with any gen3/gen4 drive these days if you're avoiding the sketchy brands, most testing show gen4 drive being only marginally better in load times.
My MP33 died after a year and they sent back new drive after a month, the brand is fine.
*
Specs not too bad but pricing will have to cross shop with NV2/NV3 or those cheap PNY SSDs.

Is removing heatsink on the ssd gona void warranty? Coz the the boards with m2 heatsink can't fit with the ssd's heatsink?
*
Yes and no, it depends if they come preinstalled and have warranty void sticker on the heatsink cover joint, or specifically mention on the info sticker. I wouldnt open these as it could ruin the thermal pad.

And then there are those that come separate for buyers choice to self install like Adata

These are the best as i can use the mobo heatshield and keep the included heatsink for another drive next time.

990 evo plus vs legend 960, which should i go? AI says 990, price about 100 difference
*
990 evo plus is DRAMless

legend 960 is with DRAM

For OS bootdrive, I would prefer SSD with DRAM

How does the NV3 compared with the MP44L? Not sure which PNY is decent there are so many models. I haven't been keeping track on SSDs in general.
*
Im guessing about the same, these cheapo SSD usually DRAMless and have the crappiest controllers plus QLC NAND (TLC if your lucky), however NV series are often the cheapest price and just for game/storage the hardware specs isnt as critical.

For PNY generally any thats cheapest but careful that you didnt get M2 SATA version as that runs on SATA speeds.

Another choice team group

t-force g70 pro 1tb

Yup, good choice basically same hardware as Adata S70, and also others like Acer Predator GM7000, Lexar NM800 Pro

Their all very similar so buy whichever cheapest.

I looked at the specs again and was surprised to see that the TBW specs were so low on par with planar tlc or lower.
Maybe I should get something a little better like the G50. How Fanxiang looking like these days?
*
If you look at TBW objectively it will only be achieved in years of daily constant full drive writes & rewrites. Doubtful this is actual usage. However I have MLC SSD which supposed to last very long died on me right after warranty period (back then was just 3 years). So YMMV

Fanxiang? I would reco stick with reputable name brands. At least you have local warranty.

need rec for 4/8tb SSD, purpose is warm storage, not necessarily boot drive
warranty  and TBW is priority

ive seen almost all pcie 4 tlc 4tb in the range of 1.3k-1.4k so is 990pro the go to? or is there something significantly cheaper?

couldnt find a single well priced 8tb ssd but if you guys know any it would be appreciated

"For those needing 8TB of storage, the WD Black SN850X currently provides much better value than the Corsair drive."

For now avoid Phison based SSD and get other controller types. WD850X is solid option to 990Pro

The replacement is KC3000 2TB. Using Macrium Reflect 8 I cloned and expand the drive and reboot to bios to change first boot to KC3000. PC restart and runs as normal without any drama. Hopefully this new SSD can last 10 years.

Phison based drive...

Just dont install the 2 Phison SSD killer Windows updates:

HI guys, anyone bought Samsung SSD from Lotus's Lazada before? Is it under Samsung Malaysia warranty?

I just bought a 980 NVME, trying to register the product but can't.
*
If you go to a Lotus hypermart do you see them selling Sammie SSD? I really doubt its sold by Lotus themselves, perhaps a shop inside Lotus which could mean its not official reseller. Why not ask Sammie helpdesk to verify if Lotus is an official reseller.

yeap, dont buy rando unknown SSD brands,
(My own) Tierlist:
1. Samsung
2. Micron (Crucial)
3. Teamgroup
4. WD (Sandisk)
5. Seagate
6. Kioxia (Spun-off from Toshiba)
7. A-data (XPG)
8. Kingston
9. Transcend

Before hit the buy button, make sure the shop is local and have at warranty
Check review, especially from techpowerup
First thing to check, whether it has DRAM, with DRAM it may prolong the SSD life span and improve performance
but if you're using for storage drive, you can pretty much ignore the DRAM requirement
*
I question Teamgroup ranking that high, even higher than WD & Kioxia which are OEM and uses inhouse NAND, and Seagate which has highest TBW rating for each size capacity.
TG is just another 3rd party AIBS same as Adata, Kingston, etc

I've reach to laz lotus store for clarification, looks like all their SSD cheapest in laz and even cheaper than shopee
from all the reviews, it seems really legit. Really tempted to get one of the samsung ssd
The Samsung T7 SSD 1TB will price at RM270, 2TB RM577 during 11.11. Which is cheapest among all sellers.

Yea in the physical store, I don't see them selling phones, tablets and computer, maybe sales too low, I don't go lotus's store to buy computer also, only grocery.  biggrin.gif
Maybe they are transitioning become like the "BestBuy" online, so gadgets only exclusive sold online.  icon_idea.gif

And Laz got buyer protection also, just record a video when unboxing as a proof, I think will be fine.
*
Do share your experience after you try, iinm Samsung Magic should able to detect this drive to know whether legit or not

I know this is not the right time to buy SSD due to the influence of RAM price hike.
But I'm looking for 1/2 TB SSD for personal storage.
Can recommend any Shopee or Lazada sellers that's selling at okay price and especially selling genuine SSD capacity size.
*
On the contrary, while SSD prices hasnt returned to a couple years back level, it still hasnt started rising due to RAM price hike so now is the time to buy before it starts going up.

Any good third party heatsink out there? icon_rolleyes.gif

Thermalright or ID Cooling. IDC Zero is also compatible with PS5 but for PC it may be just enuff not to throttle.

It just needs another dotcom bubble to burst, now the AI bubble to pop, otherwise not only desktop ram, smartphone that use ram and ssd will see price hike even further.
now many big corpo building data center for AI, then the fabs prioritize for them instead of consumer version of chips thus the supply become low.
*
AI bubble wont burst so soon as unlike crypto bubble which only niche PC users are into that and nobody is affected much when it died down, the general public does use AI in some form or another and usage is growing hence AI data centers and AI hardware in each PC will grow more demand. Its a bubble that wont burst so soon unless the world no longer has infinite money to throw into it anymore.

Until TSMC, Samsung, Micron and SK Hynix building more fabs, the price wont be going down anytime soon,
but building fab is going to take years so the pc market going to suffer.

I remember since the crypto boom, retailer at SG hoarding GPU with insane price, i remember 6900XT cost 2.5 to 3K SGD, after that I swear i wont be buying any of the shits from them.
Mid end GPU price also rose 20-30%.

Now as long as i have capable gaming lappy or just Legion/ROG Ally, it should be enough, storage and ram size become least of my concern as i wont be playing new games or playing game at 4K.
*
Building fabs will take time and with the crazy high prices these days, the makers has zero incentives to speed even a day faster. Like Nvidia, their raking in the AI boom so why go back to the days when hardware prices were more reasonable? Nvidia has no incentives to lower GPU prices preCrypto so why would the DRAM, SSD makers do too?

Expect midrange PC to be near RM 10k at the peak AI demand.
