After much considerations, I am going to proceed with tinting for my house. Main objective is to reduce heat and temperature and thus electricity bill. 3 candidates were considered. 3M, vkool and Irispro.

3M and vkool are still expensive especially my total sq ft area to be covered is 1750! So likely go with Irispro.

My question is has anyone got this done? Anyone went to Irispro? Any feedback appreciated

How much is the average price per sqft for glass tinting? Can we do it after we have installed our grille?

For those I am looking at the cheapest is RM8 psft. Most are much more than that that. So for my house the total cost will go from RM13.8k to 45k! The films are installed from inside. If your grille is outside that's fine. Otherwise I assume they have to install on the outside which is less than ideal. Just my guess as my house is grille less so no problem for me and I didn't ask about this

I have done with IrisPro here. Good quality and price is reasonable compare to 3M. On my side, i wouldn't compare vkool with 3M and IrisPro, because 3M and IrisPro ( in my point of view ) is consider atas brand, LOL.

What I want to give feedback is the after effect for IrisPro tinted. The weather at my house area is very sunny, when it shine onto my house, honestly speaking I do not feel the heat impact from the glass panel. I can just open my ceiling fan in the middle of hot evening is sufficient enough. Of course when the sunshine hit on top of your house, you will feel slight heat coming from the bumbung when you had your nap time in the evening.

Overall, I can say quality product come with a price, you will be happy to enjoy the after effect. Besides I did my whole house for a very minimal cost and squeeze the vendor abit.

Any photos to show and how much minimal cost you paid ?

Thanks for your feedback and input. May I know which Irispro products/series you have installed? I don't like the cheap mirror type although it is most economical.

I am looking at a combination of Raypro series (expensive), Antifade series (RM13 psqft). Some areas that don't get full sun I may go for cheaper Color Stable series. For the areas with direct sun I am looking at 15-20% visible light transmission films. Not sure if they are too dark!

It would be great if u remember the product code(s).

I personally installed the color stable series product code CS3090 and antifade series just for my masterbedroom. Color series price is slightly cheaper than antifade series. But the function of antifade lagi bagus, because it has 100% ultraviolet function and the TSER percentage also very high. Do look into these 3 function on the film tinted which is Infra ray (Heat), Ultraviolet rejection and TSER function. These are the 3 main function to look into, another than that is for pattern saja.

I can suggest all your bedroom put the AntiFade series tinted film. It can block the sun heat in the morning and let you sleep chilling till 10am above. Haha!! The antifade series product code will be AF2090 high spec or AF3060 lower spec.

Thanks! I am looking at a mix of Raypro 35, AF3590/2090 and CS1590. Living room either Raypro35 or AF3590. Bedrooms may be AF2090 or CS1590. The rest like kitchen will be CS1590. My backyard awing skylight may just install mirror reflective type.

The main objective is to reduce heat. My entire house has mostly floor to ceiling glass. Hence high TSER>70% is a must. The 100% UV will be a nice to have.

Why want to tint when you can install total blackout curtains?

I guess you have never owned a house with floor to ceiling glass windows. Curtains will not block heat, UV and IR.

I am trying not to use air-conditioning all the time. The electrical bill be 4 figures. With tinting, the temperature will be comfortable.

For heat rejection the main one is IRR spec. TSER is secondary measurement. UV one can ignore for front windscreen but normal glass won't cut UV so also need to look at it for home windows.

I think you got it the other way around. IRR is part of TSER but TSER includes heat from visible light and UV energy. Although IR is a big component, TSER is a better measure.

A good film IRR will be 90%+ but TSER can be 60s to 70s because of the visible light factor. UV rejection is useful if you want to protect curtains, furniture or any valuables from UV damages.

You are wrong, my house is with many bi-foldings and sliding doors. All use blackout curtains.

I have curtains too. Curtains are not as effective against heat and not everyone like the house to look like night in day time.
I am just curious ... Are you putting blackout curtains for your car too? People tinting the house for the same reason: reduce heat while maintaining visibility.

Hi, do you mind sharing the cost estimation of your installation?

Every installation is different depending on the sqft of your windows/areas to be covered.

For Irispro, the price for CS series eg CS1590 is RM8 psft. 5 years performance and product warranty. For the Antifade series eg AF3590, AF2090 the price is RM13 psft. 7 yrs performance and product warranty. There are higher Raypro and Diamond series but those are more than RM20 psft. VKool and 3M films are roughly RM40 depending on product ranges

This is based on my house with 1750sqft. If yours is more you may be able to get some bulk discount. Lesser area may have slightly higher prices. Obviously if u can get cheaper products but you won't likely get the performance. Mirror reflective type can be cheaper (RM6 or less) but they are ugly and cheap looking

Just installed IrisPro tint today after some price negotiation and briefly looking at Ecotint. These two are the reasonably priced ones. We went with IrisPro due to the timing as we engaged IrisPro from the beginning and we are familiar with the specifications and technology used.

My observations on the installation:
1. My house is reasonable size and they need two days to complete the job
2. The workmanship is quite good. The 3 persons are all local people and with years of experience. Installation is painstaking and meticulous.
3. I use fairly dark film (15% visible light transmission rate). This is to ensure better TSER (total solar energy rejection). However, in bright day light, the film looks quite clear and light color. Only when the day is gloomy the room looks a bit dark.
4. Since this is the first day I can’t fully comment on how much heat it reduces but there is definitely a difference.
5. In fact I also tinted my skylight/awning in backyard as my backyard can be quite hot in the afternoon.
6. Overall I am reasonably happy with the results so far. Will update on longer term effectiveness of this but so far I am not using my curtain in day time anymore.

Hi there! Been following updates on your place, would be great to see some pictures during day time and night time may be from inside the house and outside the house!

During day time where outside is brighter, if you are looking from outside you are not seeing anything inside. You will see a reflection of yourself even though my film is not cheap mirror type. Looking from inside, it is like looking through a light color sunglasses.

In the night where inside is brighter, outside people can see inside clearly. So you still need sheer or curtain for privacy at night. At the same time visibility from inside to outside will be poor if inside is much brighter than outside. You can’t see outside well at all with lights on.

The second panel the sliding door is opened so this is the “original” look; the third panel is tinted; the fourth panel is much darker due to TWO tinted sliding doors overlaps.


Outside view. You can see only reflections from outside.


Another view from inside. Very soft light. No more glare.


This is my backyard awning tinted with cheaper mirror reflective type. It is actually reflective both ways so I can see my floor when I look up!

Do you know how many degrees it reduces? What are the specs of this film? BTW you have too many soft toys.

looks a lot nicer.. it's costly but i think it's good investment if extra budget on hand.. especially nowadays everyone are stay at home most of the time.. a comfortable home is necessary

Yes. I have not seen my garden and outside wood/trees until today! To me the business case is to reduce the air conditioning bill but I think the ROI is probably 3 to 4 years!

However, the benefits are more than just cooling bill. I listed some benefits here:

1. Reduce room temperature via heat rejection. Thereby saving electricity bill

2. Protect furnishing such as curtains, sofa, photos, piano, etc which are placed near the windows.

3. Easier on eyes as tinting reduces glare. Everything looks softer!

4. More privacy at day time where I can open all curtains and outside people can’t see what is inside. I can also now see the birds perching on the trees in front of my house without opening my door or curtains 😬

On the other hand, the negatives are:
1. It is still expensive
2. If you are looking at this from security standpoint they are not as effective.
3. Performance will degrade over time. So you need to look for one with product and performance warranty for as long as possible - 5 years minimum. Some offers 7 or more years but they will be expensive

I have installed this in early Feb. Prior to installation the weather was good and cloudy and not hot. For for about a month we don't use air-conditioning in living room during day and night time. My latest electricity bill is about RM500.

Prior to this, we turn on the air conditioning during the day in living room. The master bedroom air-conditioning is on during sleep time. The no change. The kids' rooms do not use much air-conditioning. That cost us about RM750 a month. If we use all air-conditioning for all units that will be about RM950.

So my preliminary answer is I save about RM200 a month and can be in my living room comfortably even during this hot CNY period without using air conditioning
