Hi, I'm looking for a laptop that costs around RM 2000. Is it possible to get one? Main priority is reliable(can last at least 5 years).
The laptop is only used by my dad for web browsing and watching YouTube.
If it is impossible to get a reliable laptop at this price. I might consider buying a desktop(main reason I consider laptop is its portability) with i3-10100 as I see its performance is good enough to last a 5 year. Thanks.

Thanks for the recommendations. May I know if 4GB of RAM is sufficient?

4GB sufficient, make sure have SSD as well. With SSD, 4GB ram is enough for browsing and youtube and serious multiple tab browsing.

No, 4GB RAM is not enough for a simple web browsing.

Opening Google Chrome alone would've taken up all 4GB of RAM.

At this time and age, simple writing documents, web browsing and media consumption, you will need a minimum of 8GB of RAM.

That's true, Chrome with YouTube opened will consume lots of RAM. But for that price range, there is not much options for 8GB RAM.

Up your budget to RM2,500 and you can give your dad a decent mobile laptop experience.

https://www.lazada.com.my/products/huawei-m...LJlszD&search=1

Huawei Matebook D15
Ryzen 5 3500u
8GB RAM

AMD Vega 8 Integrated Graphics
512GB SSD (Storage Space)
15.6" IPS Screen (1920x1080P) - Suitable for parents who needs bigger screens
Fingerprint scanner power button
All metal chassis - Solid construction
2 Year Huawei Malaysia warranty

All that for RM2,500

Trust me when I say you would rather save up the extra RM500 and use it on a better built laptop for a peace of mind. Especially for your parents, getting a good product that would help improve their quality of life (instead of more headache trying to troubleshoot a cheap laptop with built quality issues). And less headache for you to deal when the laptop is fault free.

The specs looks good for its price. Is Huawei's laptop reliable enough to last long?

Enough? Cuz there is the Windows Defender thing running in the background too. Or should I opt for Edge which consumes slightly lesser RAM?

Have you tried using a laptop with 4GB of RAM for office works? Multitasking with Chrome, Excel, and Word?

The minimum recommended RAM running for Windows 10 is 2GB

https://www.microsoft.com/en-ph/windows/win...-specifications

This leaves you 2GB remaining for "other things".

Which by opening Google Chrome would've taken up another 2GB. Leaving you with 0 RAM available for running other "important task".

TLDR: 8GB.
