Well if it works for Digi, it should also work for Maxis or any other provider. The basis behind it all should be the same.

it was unlocked using SIM Application copy from version 2 and above written backwards to version 1 of sim cards, basically it will work in any telco once you successfully copy the data into version 1 of SIM cards

well, in other word, the iPhone's actually reading a security code from locked telco which is available in SIM version 1

so whenever you copy your other SIM cards to the SIM version 1 cards, it will work like normal

cost? It will be free if you wait for another week time laugh.gif

this is the *hacked* version. there's no support... no warranty, nothing. got it?

the official Apple supported one, is due to arrive in 2008. its not going to get here faster if people hack it... or anything.

You guys can try writing letters,

Did Apple says 2008 for Malaysia? All they say is Asia. And for my understanding, Asia for Apple cover the following:
- Hong Kong
- Japan
- Singapore
- South Korea
And maybe a few for I forgot. But I'm sure Malaysia are no where near their list.
Unless they're secretly in the progress of clossing contract with local telco.

I hate to say it but, there wasn't any iphone@2008 unless you can proof it.

Ok, you have the point.

On the matter. We might see a pair of fully unlocked iPhone on Maxis network if the unlock is successfull this few days. They promise a "demo" during coming macfest.
Those two fella are lucky enough to get the Turbo SIM before it ran out of stocks.

hehehe, stay tune.

Hmm.. I thought all these iPhone hype is over already. At that price could get any much better spec PDA (minus the iPhone screen). I think anyone looking for a productivity tool, they would be better off with any Windows Mobile device. Anyone looking for a show-off fun phone, iPhone wins hands down.

Just like the so-called secure OSX86 , this thing will get hacked. Dont worry , once the asian versions are out. Hackers will hack again and you'll see them here in Malaysia

Trust me , I've spoken to one of the hackers of the #iphone project and he is Confident that it will be cracked within a month or two

well, all Windows based phones like WM5/6 are all locked via software only, there's no involve of hardware to lock the SIM

like the phones in SE/Nokia, the SIM is locked via hardware which is even harder to decrypt the security code. It took 4 years to unlock BB5 chip and took months to unlock DB2020 chip

so even Mac OS based phone will be easily hacked compare to locked via chip

I heard the iPhone software updates won't work with hacked iPhones, where it would restore the phone to original settings. But that is for application hacks, not sure about these "Sim hacks".

SIM hack should still works.
Since it does nothing to the software. It's just adding extra code on the SIM to fool the iPhone that it's an AT&T SIM.

It's easier for me to put it that way, instead of saying: "sms in, sms out, edge, blah blah blah...".

Anyway, since the software unlock are coming tonight. We shall wait for more report.

The iPhone is only sold in the U.S. and has not been released for sale in Malaysia. If you have bougth an iPhone, the only way to claim any sort of warranty is to send it back to the States. I am not even sure whetehr you have to state your location of residence to make such warranty claims. It's like buying the Wii or PS3. Your warranty comes from the vendor who sold it to you, on his terms.

Having said that, TurboSIM works, with caveats.

Tested on a DIGI Prepaid, everything works.

Tested on MAXIS Postpaid, only incoming calls do not work. Not sure why this is so at this stage, but will investigate further. Refering to a post at another forum, somone who tested with the SilverCard SIM cloning hack also reported complete functions on a DIGI Postpaid, but when using a Prepaid MAXIS, incoming calls were also unavailable. Could very well be a protocol that is used by MAXIS that is in conflict with the iPhone? Some one postulated that it could be a NOM problem (dont ask me what it is - Google for it).

Since so many people is doing this i still don't understand why that teem is getting so much attention on the news,NTV7 the stars are reporting about him while nobody is reporting that Malaysians have actually done it too.

The people getting the coverage are the ones who discovered how to do it. Then they post instructions on a web site.

From what I've seen, the Malaysians are just reading those web sites and copying the process.

It's like asking why the first people who flew in an airplane are in the history books, but you flew AirAsia from KL to JB last week and none of the newspapers want to interview you about your achievement.

There is a slim chance that Apple will be forced to provide unlock codes to all iPhones. IF this lawsuit goes through, which is.. unlikely.. but still hope..

As a result, Kliegerman is asking the Court to award a judgement barring Apple from selling locked iPhones, as well as an order requiring the company to provide unlock codes to all iPhone owners

The thing is, knowing the court systems, it may be years before a settlement is reached. biggrin.gif Don't put your hopes up too much...

I think local telco will practice a lot of price skimming just like what they are doing now with their much ballyhoed 3G hoopla, *sigh* iPhone is so cool to own, yet so not worth it to pay the monthly telco bill.

I know that ages ago, but I also know the local telcos will not pass over the chance to make as much profit as possible from this 'high-end' phone. What I like best about the iphone is using it like a mobile internet, but of course the charges will be some insanely high price-per-kilobyte BS.

The phones dropped to $399 so I'm def going to get one. But the fact remains it needs to be unlocked -- does anyone know where i can get it unlocked, and what are their charges. Is there a hack I can download somewhere?

I suggest you wait for a while. The new iPhones may or may not have some changes (hardware or firmware), therefore, the unlocking may not work.

I personally have no idea. Just wait for a while to confirm if the new iPhones are unlockable.

Do NOT fall for this unlocking fee thing. You can do it for FREE with tools available freely off the web. Even a newborn clunkerhead with little computer experience can follow the instructions to do this. Save your money to get the iPhone accessories instead.
