hi, coming from windows to macbook pro (macOS) do i need to pay for microsoft office to use powerpoint/words/excel etc?

I think you are confused. No matter you are using Microsoft Windows or MacOS, Microsoft Office are sold separately and you got to pay them to use it. Unless you use a hack version, which would consider as pirate. There are many alternative out there, LibreOffice is quite a good choice if you do not want to pay for Microsoft Office. Otherwise, if you can learn new things with new logic, then you can utilise MacOS iWork (number, keynote, page).

personally I subscribe MS365 and share with another 5 friends. It only cost me RM5 a month, or RM60 a year. I use MS365 acc in MacBook, iPad, and iPhone, which the normal one-time-off Office 2020/2018 cannot do that.

I use mostly Microsoft Excel for work....and for personal stuff, I tends to use iWorks and share in iCloud.

I use this kind of acc before, but it block me after 1 year like that. Then, only I found there is huge flaw in security, the admin will be able to control/manage my file directly, either copy them or delete them.

I just bought Office 365 at half price from Tesco online. Plus paired it with multiple voucher, share with 5 friends. About RM22 for the entire year lol. Coming from Windows as well & since my personal machine will be my work machine as well, I will not risk trying to save too much money paying few bucks to get some shady version of Office 365.

I just used it for Word and Excel. Never use the OneDrive to store personal files.

If it gets blocked then buy another. But mine been using it for more than 3 years and hasn't got blocked yet.

Yes. Just subscribe to 365 Personal. Yearly or monthly also can. I opt for monthly.

I'm using the 365, good for 5 machines regardless of OS. So far, I have 365 on 2 Windows laptops, 1 Mac laptop, 1 Mac desktop, and 1 iPad. I bought it mainly for 1TB cloud storage.

Personal is for 1 account. Family can support 5 accounts.

Why not try office online?

Microsoft Office for Mac is sluggish.
I’ll recommend TS to go for WPS, which is exactly same like Microsoft Office main apps (Words, Excel, PowerPoint), but its smoother. This is free and i’ve been using it for years.

Hmm, wont say no to free stuffs, especially the good ones. Is it legit though, as in safe to use etc etc? Coz I see most people recommend 365 here, not much of others..

Also can you share more of your experience in terms of sluggishness on the 365? I’m using it for basics, nothing professional, more of using outlook, basic words (for contracts and agreements), pdf, and excel..

Locally, which mean no need internet,
And all is save on one drive, and must upload to onedrive.
Privacy maybe and pro & con for both version..

WPS is perfectly legit, just that they aren't as big as Microsoft.
Their apps works exactly the same as Microsoft Office.

You can use for free, but if you want advance features developed by WPS, you may pay extras for it. Download it HERE.

I used Excel a lot, and mostly are huge sizes with a lot of formulas in ten pf pages in a single file, which build up from 40MB to 100MB.
Using Microsoft Office for Mac, the launching of file takes quite sometime to load up, which WPS can launch in just than half the time.
To top that of, since its a huge Excel file, the responsiveness when changing some data are sometime bring to app hang while WPS is more workable even though it sometime might experience freezes as well.

The main reason i opted for WPS is the hot keys are same as Microsoft Office for Windows.
Hotkeys for Microsoft Office for Mac are slightly different, hence smtm its very confusing and tend to Stop-and-Think a while when i first used Mac 8 years ago.

You may try it out first since its free before you go for 365 which is a paid subscription.

Let me guess, you were using pirated versions of Office on Windows, lol. No judgments here. You can get cheap versions at Shopee for few bugs, they will work on both PC and Macs, up to 5 computers. Only thing you have to remember not to sync any documents with Cloud Sync as the sellers might have access to them.

You can buy Office annual memberships, but they are costly. Offline versions cost at least 5 or 600 bucks per computer, so shopee might be the better choice.
