Actually the difference is negligible. I am using an old WD External USB 3.0 HDD. Works fine.
It does made me think though. What if Sony enable PS5 games to run from external drive as well? Will it required a SSD? And perhaps an ssd that supports Superspeed 10gbps only. So maybe is good to consider future investment to get ssd that can support Superspeed usb 10gps. Just in case.
Update your PS5 console with the latest system software. You can also check out the features that are available in the update here. In addition, you can view the online user’s guide in the PS5 console's Settings menu.
Version 20.02-02.50.00 This system software update improves system performance. In rare cases, the PS4 version of a game would install from the disc after you upgraded to and installed the PS5 version. Now, when you insert the PS4 game disc, the PS4 version won't install unexpectedly. You can now select and edit video clips using Share Factory Studio from your media gallery.

I emailed sony Malaysia last week and they replied. Manage to get my warranty extended to 3 years even though I bought my PS5 from GH.
Just go sony Malaysia and send email from their website. Secure that way. I use this email add. cic.somas@ap.sony.com is Sony Malaysia General Enquiry.

Finished GOW....wow can't believe this is 2018 game. So nice with the latest update for PS5. But still have work to do to get platinum. Valkyrie only got 3 out of 9. I'll take times to complete this.
