Why not 980 Pro for everything? 980 Pro goes on sale regularly and is cheaper than SN850. Why buy WD then?

Well few days of using the 980 pro here and it's been all good, as fast as the internal drive as far as loading games go. But transferring games from internal to 980 pro, it is so much faster it's not even a competition. It took 90 secs to transfer R&C from internal to 980 pro, but from 980 pro back to internal took nearly 10 minutes. I'll just have everything installed on the 980 pro from now on. QUOTE(shinjite @ Aug 9 2021, 04:13 PM) I get the suspicion that Sony is limiting the write speed to its internal SSD as I have seen from a few reviews when they did the timing comparison in corresponding to the size of the game being copied and all came down to the same transfer figure limit. Or they could be limiting the write speed to to minimize the wear levels on the NAND. You can change the NVME drive anytime, you can never change the internal NANDs if they wear out. It's basically buy a new console after that. |

Current list of CONFIRMED working NVME PCIE 4.0 SSDs:
- Samsung 980 Pro - Western Digital SN850 - Seagate Firecuda 530 - Gigabyte Aorus 7000s - Sabrent Rocket 4 Plus Buy any on the list above where you can find the cheapest price for the capacity you want. Don't fall into traps and FOMO about which SSD is better or which is worse, they all will perform within margin of error at the end of the day in the PS5. |

QUOTE(blurkia @ Aug 11 2021, 07:08 PM) They don't come with heat sink right? Any recommended ones, or can we not use them with heatsink? I'm using this EKWB , works fine. Don't have to use this one of course because it's rather expensive. I believe there are several china no-name knock offs available on shopee.thanks! Yes you can use the drives without heatsink, it'll get quite hot though. Once it gets too hot, it'll throttle performance. |

All PCIE4 based NVME drives will work, no matter the speed. Obviously you'd want 7000mb/s if possible, but if it's too expensive then the standard 5500mb/s drives are still a good cheaper alternative.

QUOTE(simmarjit @ Aug 13 2021, 03:09 PM) Yea I know of HdFury ..unfortunately at those price points it’s better to manual switch HDMI cables LOL 😂 Manually switching HDMI cables has a risk not many realize:1) If you're lucky, all you do is kill the cable. 2) If you're unlucky, you kill the port on the source/sink. 3) If you're VERY unlucky, you kill the entire HDMI board. I do not recommend hot swapping HDMI cables as a solution. Now inb4 someone say "I've been switching HDMI cables for a decade since the PS3 days". Understand that HDMI 2.0 ports and above has increased voltage compared to HDMI 1.3 and below yet they still don't have any resistor within them to protect from a short. Should be getting 6500mb/s+, under 6000mb/s is abnormal for any 7000mb/s drive.

Sony KLCC is closing down very soon, don't send your PS5 there even if they are open.

There was a time when RM129 gets you a full game. Now you pay RM129 for a patch and an expansion that barely lasts 6 hours. Lol.

This is a known issue and Sony will be releasing a hardware revision for the wifi component in the next SKU later on in the year.Got some issues with ps5 Not sure what it is But playing online is laggy/dc Install ps4 version on ps5 also same Not just that Downloading updates/game sometimes stuck and stop downloading Can confirmed not disc/game server issue Tested with ps4 no issue What the..im using same wifi too |

On second look, it looks like they also changed the base plate from copper to alu. That's a very bad change as a whole.
They probably knew they screwed up by over engineering the cooling from the beginning. So now they just try and do the bare minimum. |

Lol cooling is just physics.
You need mass for thermals to dissipate into and you need a convection of some sort to cool it (in this case, it's air). If you have less mass, you have less blockage of air which simply means more air will be exhausted (hence the heat that is measured is also higher). But that also means you create more hotspots internally. The key take away are the measured temps on the critical components of the system = the CPU, GPU and the memory. The launch PS5 SKUs already had very high memory temps, it's borderline hitting the limits that it was spec'd for. The CPU and GPU has some headroom left, so that's where Sony is cutting down the heatsink for. Economically, that makes sense not just for raw materials, but also for logistics. QUOTE(hybr1d3d @ Sep 1 2021, 12:26 AM) I wonder if any third party would come out with the mod to enhance the heat sink unit like adding additional copper heat sink surrounding the revised heat sink. All an extra heatsink would do is serve as blockage to airflow. You'd practically have to design a new heatsink which has to be beefier than the revised one (just like the OG one, perhaps even more) and it'll have to fit with the aluminum plate mounting holes. I'm not familiar with thermal physics anyway so I'm not sure if it'll works. If there is any mechanical engineers in this field. Hope they'll give some opinion. The mod also won't be a simple walk in the park because most people do not know how to handle liquid metal. Just a speck of it on the board and it'll short the entire thing. So while a mod can theoretically happen, it won't make sense - economically. In either case, don't read too much into it. There are still no proper temperature testing done anyways (besides, the Austin guy got many facts wrong too like mentioning how boost clocks work for the PS5). We're all here just arm chair speculating about the smaller heatsink being bad. It may not be that bad in reality. |

QUOTE(Max2006 @ Sep 4 2021, 02:25 PM) Checked his other products. Lol I just asked out of curiosity, he says if buy more than 6 units can COD. 1 unit cannot.https://www.lazada.com.my/products/samsung-...6924MGJdHD&mp=1 Samsung Fold 3 (12+512) official pricing in Malaysia is RM7099. Not to mention that this new phone is still not yet released in Malaysia. The phone will only arrive here around end of Sept. So 2nd hand or AP set are not applicable to this case. And he is selling the new phone at RM4699. Conclusion? Definitely a scam. However, it seems that Cash on Delivery is available. I guess whoever with brave heart can try that. Not sure if you can choose to pay only after unboxing the parcel on the spot. Much bullshit. |
