I think it's similar to the John Doe or Jane Doe. A dummy account, probably a real human being but he is just a nobody..

I think it's due to those companies failed to achieve the goals of marketing their "grand prizes" and shit.. So they end up taking a John Doe to use his name for it and then he gets a small money, finally everything writes off.
