I'm interested to learn classical guitar myself and take the exams. Mostly for fun, not planning to become a professional.
Question is, should I follow Trinity or ABRSM? I see both being mentioned a lot here in Malaysia.

Are you suggesting that I should not take exams if I just want to learn it as hobby? I feel like it's a good way to push myself. Like how some people who learn Japanese language for fun will take JLPT exams to gauge their proficiency.

so those ppl who learn the language didnt take exams to be proficient...they already were...be it from speaking often to friends or learning from youtube etc...

Yeah that's what I meant, the exam is for gauging the proficiency. If I learn on my own, how do I know my proficiency if I don't take exam? Especially for classical guitar.
Anyway, that's not the point of this thread. I just want to know which one is widely used in Malaysia for guitar, ABRSM or Trinity? I'm planning to buy some books for Grade 1 music pieces. Not sure if I should buy one from ABRSM or Trinity.

Can consider Yamaha also. I feel the syllabus is quite good and won't be too classical.
Is your choice to take the exam or not, learn first and feel it.
