I'm interested to learn classical guitar myself and take the exams. Mostly for fun, not planning to become a professional. Question is, should I follow Trinity or ABRSM? I see both being mentioned a lot here in Malaysia.

Are you suggesting that I should not take exams if I just want to learn it as hobby? I feel like it's a good way to push myself. Like how some people who learn Japanese language for fun will take JLPT exams to gauge their proficiency.

Yeah that's what I meant, the exam is for gauging the proficiency. If I learn on my own, how do I know my proficiency if I don't take exam? Especially for classical guitar. Anyway, that's not the point of this thread. I just want to know which one is widely used in Malaysia for guitar, ABRSM or Trinity? I'm planning to buy some books for Grade 1 music pieces. Not sure if I should buy one from ABRSM or Trinity.

Getting Started

QUOTE(imnotabot @ Nov 18 2020, 03:09 PM) Thanks. I guess I'll go for ABRSM. Can consider Yamaha also. I feel the syllabus is quite good and won't be too classical. Is your choice to take the exam or not, learn first and feel it.
