DT990 is known to have extended highs and lows...
maybe during ur previous trial, there was something that didnt really fully bring out the DT990's potential (eg. weak amp??)??? |

ugh...tubes are tubes no matter wat u wanna call them....if theres tubes then theyre tubes... not something i would even look at.
SS or SS is the only way to go... my only other option would be.... » Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... « |

QUOTE(sep90 @ Sep 15 2008, 10:59 AM) madman excuse me....but wat makes u think ive never heard tube amps before??? just because i dont like tube amps u assume ive never heard tube amps before??? oblivious u havent heard any tube amp b4? but judging from preference u r a basshead no offense tube is more warm and into vocal signature on the hand ss is great for bass and wider soundstage but wat if u can combine both of them? u can get the best of them (bass , soundstage , warm , synergy ,vocal and not to mention power to drive those power hungry cans) that is my point maybe it is a little hassle looking for tube replacement cos in msia hardly u can get any and life expectancy for tube is around few thousand hours onli nothing like solid state amps jus swap out and replace with other op amp jus my 2 cent there i dont hate something for no reason man.... Darkvoice 336i...LD MK II...and cant remember another one.... none of them suited me... why?? because of the laid back sound signature of tubes.....so watever the hybrid may be... the laid back sound signature of the tube is still there... keep in mind i listen to metal....and laid back sound signatures are a HUGE nono....u want to feel the energy...not fall asleep (which is what i felt when trying DT990 + Darkvoice 336i). also the same reason why i hate sennheisers....fall asleep listening to metal.... no matter wat i tried with the HD650 & HD595...they make me fall asleep....laid back sound signature... HD650 + Darkvoice 336i even worse This post has been edited by mADmAN: Sep 15 2008, 12:48 PM |

typically the lower the impedance the easier they are to drive...
in the case of the DT990... (based on wat ive read, never tried the 32 or 600ohm version before). the 32ohm and 250ohm versions supposedly sounds very similar... the 600ohm howver, is a whole different beast. but of course very hard to drive. 32ohm and 600ohm are officially only available from the manufaktur page now...but jaben in singapore has some stocks of 32ohm and 600ohm variations of the DT880 and DT990. |

cant remember what they were.....i suggest taking a peek over at head-fi...alot has been said about the 600ohm versions over there...
if i remember correctly the 600ohm DT990 uses a different driver as well.. |

QUOTE(callmevil @ Sep 15 2008, 10:47 PM) man...im always busy too....but i found the time to go drive all the way down to jaben to audit and buy the DT990.patience....the time will come... and when a window opens....take the trip...dont rush into it. keep in mind that ur planning to spend alot of money on a pair of headphones....so be sure on what u wanna spend it on. taking the trip will enable u to audition the cans and decide on which one u like... but of course...best to bring ur own source and CDs. audit them with songs u are familiar with. |
