1. I just installed win10 3 weeks ago. I set my USB as primary boot drive. Installed win10. When it restarted, I'm surprised the bios bootup screen didn't show "press any key to boot from USB", which I used to see on older machines. The installation was painless.

2. You setup your SSD when you wanna install win10. You still get the typical drive partition setup page.

Yes. Other than partition and format, what else u wanna initialize? There's nothing else to do. What initialization are you expecting?
