Hey guys question... how important is VRR/Freesync etc for console gaming? Will it really be used?

Seem to have made some space to fit a 43in tv on my desk lol.. but the model i am looking at has no freesync/vrr/g-sync .. those seem to be only on really large screens.

Is it important? what are your gaming expriences on consoles without it?

It's such a normal thing on our PC monitors I also never considered that some TVs don't have it....

PS5 doesnt support VRR at the moment..

might be supported in the future.

VRR will eliminate all screen tearings and makes running 45- 60fps games look smooth like locked 60fps.

@bolded

This is not true. 45fps will still feel like 45fps, it will not be smooth because the framerate is inherently low. VRR eliminates the judder and screen tearing, but it does not eliminate low framerate and high latency.

45fps (or whatever lower number you want to mention) will not feel like 60 and certainly 60 will not feel like 120 either with VRR. There is a major difference.

Key words "look liked a smooth 60fps"

using VRR..the frame drops is barely noticeable..

45fps doesn't look like 60fps, at all, not even close.

but it will still make ur game look like it was running smoothly..

Smooth within the context of 45fps yes, just like 30fps would be smooth if there are no framepacing issues. But low framerate is low framerate, it is not smooth at all.
*
the games u r playing arent staying locked at 45fps..right?

it will shift from 45fps - 60fps...back and forth.

VRR helps make the shift smoother, so you wouldnt notice the frames drop. Thus making the games feel smoother.

I don't think you understand and certainly have not experienced VRR.

Yes of course the transition of fluctuating framerates will be smoother with VRR. That is NOT what I'm talking about. I'm saying that 45fps or whatever lower number will still feel slow no matter what kind of sync technology you put on it.

If the game drops from 60 to 45, you WILL feel that at 45 it is NOT smooth. Understand?

I think ppl need to stop comparing the price of one GPU to a console.

Cuz a GPU alone definitely cant play a game. It cant do anything at all.
