Do you mean an adapter? I am using Ugreen USB 3.1 Type C to 4 ports USB 3.0 that can be connected to mic and webcam and usb storage. Price RM30 on Lazada/Shoppee.

If you need more ports to extend, you may wany to buy a docking station which is a bit expensive.

I use TP-Link UH720 9 port hub (7 USB + 2 charge only). Mac mini still got one USB port free. Thunderbolt already full, one for monitor and one for external NVME SSD. Later may need to get Thunderbolt hub which is expensive. ~RM700 for 3 ports.

Am deciding between macbook air and mac mini+ipad combo. It seems that Mac mini+ipad setup is better choice due to my table has limited width. I want a setup that ipad/macbook air as secondary screen and place in front of monitor.

Question:
Do you get a battery/UPS? In case there is no electricity?
Before COVID, I travel oversea once a month. Anybody has experience travelling with mac mini? Definitely travelling with macbook is more convenient, but mac mini isn't that bad to travel with right? As long as there is monitor and socket standby at other site.

UPS - you should always get one to protect your equipment and work. It's not meant for you to work for hours.

I got 2 homes to travel to... Both places have monitors, just need to bring the "brain"

Agreed that UPS should only protect my equipment and work. I remember many years ago when I using desktop, I lost all my work when no electricity.
But then I see most people discuss about extension hub, wondering if you guys use UPS.

I am thinking to buy an UPS as well, what you guys are using? I am planning to buy APC 1400, what do you guys think? I am not very familiar with UPS things but I think it is very important.

APC is solid brand. Go for it.

UPS is not only for backup in case of power failure but also provide stable electric current to your device so it lasts longer also.

I travel with my Mac mini and MBP, between JP and MY. prefer to do work on my 6 core 64GB desktop than the MBP. MBP for coffee shop, on-the-go usage only

1400 for the Mac only? that's pretty much overkill IMO..
I use a APC backup pro 900 for my 24 core Xeon server (200+W), home network/APs also can last like 30 minutes for proper shutdown

given that normally in bolehland if there is power disruption it will last longer than that. if you are not at home, how do you do a proper shutdown?

oh, there's the serial connection to the APC UPS, so software client will be notified when it is running on battery and start performing shutdown sequence once battery goes below a certain threshold.
I think there's an equivalent software client for Mac (power chute or something).
I'm using some linux package with my script to do the same function

i also get a bag for my mac mini (in case i need to travel with it). Solid for mac mini protection

just to take note those cheap line interactive UPS does not provide stable current to your device, only those expensive online UPS does

I usually just wrap it in a t-shirt and put in my backpack, so far so good
