Haven't seen the keynote. Is it true that Bootcamp won't be available on these new Macs?

macam not supported even through the universal app.

m1 isnt designed for windows operating software

BASICALLY, once u go M1, u are stuck with Apple ecosystem lorr which isnt that bad unless u r required to run windows' apps

Then I have to eye the old gen and get one before it sells out. Hopefully we'll get some good discounts for them smile.gif

The good problem with Macs is they last damn long. My 2014 Air is still going good. No excuses to get a new one yet!

Hey we have the same model  smile.gif , I bought mine in Dec 2014 and coming to 6 years now. Tempted to change but I still need bootcamp for some Windows based software.

I always calculate the "lifetime cost of ownership" - I paid RM 3955 for my Macbook Air back then and this translates to RM 1.80 per day over 6 years. Pretty damn good value for money for that.

PS: I have to admit I do sometimes miss playing PC games though  blush.gif

Hahaha, yeah, best return for investment as far as a laptop is concerned laugh.gif

I also paid just under RM4k for my unit, a 256GB one, couldn't be happier with it especially with Big Sur now. Everything looks new again, hahaha. I do have a concern every time I run Windows on Bootcamp though and that is my CPU fan seems to go into overdrive and can get a bit noisy. Do you have that problem?

Yes I'm loving the Big Sur visuals too, glad that it still supports older models.

About the fan, honestly it's running most of the time and yes it's certainly noticeable / loud. But I have this issue on both MacOS and Bootcamp.

Actually now that I think about it, the fan noise has been prominent and continuous ever since I had the OneDrive app on both my MacOS and Bootcamp sides (i.e. all my files are always on continuous sync to cloud).
Stopping the continuous sync on OneDrive almost always slows down the fan noise (unless I have tons of tabs open on Chrome).

If you have any continuous sync apps to cloud, perhaps you can try pausing them to see if there's a change to your fan noise.  smile.gif

I don't have OneDrive on either Windows or macOS but still get the fan noise, haha. I can hear a bit of the sound when running macOS but the sound is really bad when running Windows. I had a scare once when the whole MacBook just shutdown once and wouldn't turn on but after making an appointment at a service centre and bringing my MacBook there, it magically turned on and operated like normal at the service centre laugh.gif

Hey all, will there be a new MBA launch next week?
*
Unlikely, there are very, very few instances of hardware launches during WWDC but it's not entirely impossible. There is a rumour of a new design MBP though, and not MBA.

wow so cheap. new models coming?
*
Should be. It’s likely the M2 Air will become the next entry level Mac, which means there’s gonna be a bump in price for all Macs. They will definitely reduce the price of the M2 Air but I don’t see it starting at 4399 as per the current M1 Air laugh.gif

That said, RM3,599 is a great buy for the current M1 for those who just need a basic Mac!

still worth to buy the M1 Air or to directly buy the M2 model ya? considering to buy the M1 model since price drop to 3599 but don't know worth it or not...
*
At 3599, yes, it’s a good buy. My only concern with the M1 is just the 2 USB C ports and no MagSafe, hence when you are charging the laptop you effectively only have 1 port usable. Of course, you can get a USB C hub/dongle thingy and then you’re sorted.

I read somewhere that base m2 mba 256gb ssd is slower than m1. Not sure true or not. Even mac mini m2 ssd also suffer ssd slowness compare to m1 version
*
I think Apple using slower storage in their lowest storage models is a known thing, but for the casual user it’s not something you would really notice.
