my macbook air just got bricked yesterday,
connect to my usb-c hub with hdmi cable on it, leave it to sleep and charge, next morning dead
the laptop wont turn on and there is a ticking like noise when i press the power button
looks like the issue is related to usb-c port with PD (power delivery),
so pls get a proper usb-c hub and certified apple thunderbolt devices.
Other than that i love everything about it, doing work, compile some huge code works so much faster than my own desktop

QUOTE(eikozai @ Feb 4 2021, 10:42 PM) Mind share out what brand and model hub u using? https://shopee.com.my/ALX-3-in-1-Type-C-USB...3772.3719978350its a generic one, works fine on my other gaming laptop, most probably the issue is the same as nintendo switch usb-c implementation where the usb-c standards are not followed or low quality material used in the making of any kind of hub or adapter

QUOTE(Ashroft98 @ Feb 5 2021, 12:13 AM) Sorry for getting a lil bit confused. But what you meant was, the charger is connected to the PD port of the ALX Hub alongside with HDMI and then it got bricked? Thats terrifying yup, if you need to connect to a monitor via usb-c then better get a proper one from apple for now

QUOTE(Ashroft98 @ Feb 5 2021, 08:37 AM) Noted on that. However, if I'm planning to only use the usb-c on the hub to connect ssd, will that also might brick the macbook? Or is it just PD charging related. Same same. Don't want to take any risk. But maybe can still use the USB-C ports for peripherals? most likely the issue i see so far on the net is related to PD
