my macbook air just got bricked yesterday,

connect to my usb-c hub with hdmi cable on it, leave it to sleep and charge, next morning dead

the laptop wont turn on and there is a ticking like noise when i press the power button

looks like the issue is related to usb-c port with PD (power delivery),

so pls get a proper usb-c hub and certified apple thunderbolt devices.

Other than that i love everything about it, doing work, compile some huge code works so much faster than my own desktop

https://shopee.com.my/ALX-3-in-1-Type-C-USB...3772.3719978350

its a generic one, works fine on my other gaming laptop,

most probably the issue is the same as nintendo switch usb-c implementation where the usb-c standards are not followed or low quality material used in the making of any kind of hub or adapter

Sorry for getting a lil bit confused. But what you meant was, the charger is connected to the PD port of the ALX Hub alongside with HDMI and then it got bricked? Thats terrifying shocking.gif

Oh dear... I was just reminding ppl in the macbook pro thread about this and it happened to you...

But then what is a proper USB C hub... Even PD charging via a LG Monitor also bricked the macbook according to reddit

Hi, is this normal? Just on battery for 38min and power drop to 93%, with 5 hours more to go.

Just doing normal web browsing, but plugged in USB-C hub with HDD.

Thanks for bringing up the issue with PD charging on the M1 guys.

I'm a bit bummed 'cos I already purchased all my adapters with PD charging - but it's ok. I can live with it. I've taped up all the USB-C ports on the adapters just to be safe. sweat.gif

Noted on that. However, if I'm planning to only use the usb-c on the hub to connect ssd, will that also might brick the macbook? Or is it just PD charging related.

Same same. Don't want to take any risk. But maybe can still use the USB-C ports for peripherals? hmm.gif

Just dont use PD charging.
