Ernie Hudson Grabs a 'Dragonball'



Ernie Hudson has booked a role in James Wong's "Dragonball" alongside Chow Yun-fat. Hudson recently recurred on "Desperate Housewives" and "Las Vegas." His credits include the "Miss Congeniality" and "Ghostbusters" franchises.

Dragonball Movie Reportedly Pushed Back to April 2009

The ComingSoon.net film news website reports that the Twentieth Century Fox production company has delayed the live-action Dragonball movie's opening from August 15, 2008 to April 3, 2009. The website notes that The International, Star Wars: The Clone Wars, Tropic Thunder and Wild Child are all scheduled to open on August 15 in North America. No other film has been pegged for Dragonball's new date. The Dragonball movie adapts Akira Toriyama's fighting manga of the same name. Director James Wong (Final Destination, X-Files television series, The One) has been shooting the film in Mexico since late last year, and Stephen Chow, the actor and director behind Kung Fu Hustle and Shaolin Soccer, signed on as a producer.

The cast includes Justin Chatwin (War of the Worlds, The Invisible) as Goku, Emmy Rossum (The Phantom of the Opera film, The Day After Tomorrow) as Bulma, James Marsters (Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Smallville) as Piccolo, Eriko Tamura (Heroes) as Mai, Jamie Chung (The Real World) as Chi Chi, Joon Park (Speed Racer) as Yamcha, Randall Duk Kim as Grandpa Gohan, Ernie Hudson (Ghostbusters), and Chow Yun-Fat (A Better Tomorrow, Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End) as Master Roshi.

Live-Action Dragonball's April 3, 2009 Date Confirmed

The Fox Moves website has confirmed the new April 3, 2009 opening date in North America for James Wong's live-action film adaptation of Akira Toriyama's Dragonball fighting manga. Also, the CanMag website quotes producer Stephen Chow (Shaolin Soccer, Kung Fu Hustle, CJ7) as saying that he will not make a cameo within the film. He adds, "My contribution is mainly in the screenwriting department, giving them input and suggestions in the screenplay and other aspects."

Japan's Jump Anime Tour to Show New Dragon Ball Anime

This year's 21st issue (released on April 21) of Shueisha's Weekly Shonen Jump magazine has announced that a "Jump Super Anime Tour" will visit 10 Japanese cities this fall with new anime specials for Dragon Ball and One Piece. The tour is the eighth project that celebrates the 40th anniversary of the magazine. The magazine also hints that at least one other title will also be animated.

First Peek at Dragonball's Goku

Both DBtheMovie and the Dragon Ball Movie Blog alerted us to this scan taken from a Japanese magazine showing the first image of Justin Chatwin as Goku in Fox's Dragonball movie. Written and directed by James Wong, the big screen adaptation is scheduled for an April 10, 2009 release. James Marsters, Jamie Chung, Emmy Rossum, Eriko Tamura, Joon Park, Chow Yun-Fat, Texas Battle, Randall Duk Kim and Ernie Hudson co-star.
