Depends on what car, if cheap car I might try maybe the wrap but if expensive car, I wouldn't especially the painting.

at that price point you're looking at those insurance claim shit paint jobs that only last 13 months before paint peels off the resprayed sections. there are many ways to cut corners with paint jobs, no primer, etc.

If you repainting the whole car, D-segment sedan RM4k doesn't too sound too unreasonable depending on their workmanship.

I asked for a puny Saga at one shop last time also got quoted RM2k+ whistling.gif

then dont find the cheapest, find reputable.

rajin research & read reviews..if no reviews, might be a gamble.

u may try Autonion Paint Masters, or start research from there.

ps: usually factory paint is the best if able to maintain, but i guess yours is beyond saving for some reason

i agree with what 6uest said.
original paint is the best.

really that bad? have you tried polishing? its not going to fix all but at least remedy some.
even if you paint, very soon its going to be the same.

If just stone chips on the front facing panels, then just paint those panels (bumper, hood, front skirt, etc), no need to scrub entire car just cuz of 3 panels.

but after paint, is the vehicle still doing long highway journey's ?,

My colleague had done this, paint front area, civic turbo. Then there is colour difference between new parts paint vs rest as rest kinda slightly faded in colour for 3 years old car. Not sure due to painter skill etc

TS can ask the shop whether they provide any warranty.

Also ask if they do primer. However, I am curious though as to which car paint shop doesn't do primer. When paint goes bad, it goes back to their shop reputation. Any business men with a common sense would be able to see that.

Repainted 2 cars b4. Full car respray, exterior only, same colour.

Car 1, an old C-segment (now only eq. to B segment in terms of size) was 2.1k in yr2011. Using Nippon primer/base coat and Glasurit 923-255 HS clearcoat. 4 layer clearcoat. Minimal compounding so got moderate orange peel but that's the way I wanted as I prefer thicker clearcoat over thinner but mirror finish look. Whole process took 3wks due to issue at shop side.

Car 2, a 2010 C-segment car, was 3.7k in 2019. Using Cromax primer/base coat and Cromax CC6400 HS clearcoat. Also 4 layer as car 1. Also minimal compounding to keep clear coat as thick as possible. This is a black car and whole process took 9 working days coz include repainting of front grille, wiper arms, all exterior painted plastic parts.

My advise is never go for cheap respray as they will compromise on both raw materials (paint, reducer, clearcoat, putty etc.) and workmanship (no. of coats, thickness, sanding etc.). And if I have a choice again, I will never ever repaint my cars.

Just a few pointers

1. Always go and observe at the paintshop both the semi-finished and finished product. It can tell you roughly the quality of workmanship you can expect.
2. Don't ever go to those accident repair workshops especially panel workshops, if possible.
3. Check with the boss on what brand of base/paint (Nippon, Alesco, PPG, Cromax etc.) and how many layer.
4. Ask what reducer, clearcoat is he quoting? High solid or medium solid and what brand is it? (Cromax, Nippon, Glasurit etc.) How many layers and waiting time b4 next layer.
5. Check with him if he is gonna use plastic primer for the plastic parts (bumper, garnish etc) and what brand/model.

With these infos collected, you can search online (shopee/lazada etc) roughly what costs are involved. And whether you are ripped off of your money.

Hope this helps.

Paint is cheap (RM25-50/L). Workmanship is expensive (local skilled painter now min RM150/day).

1 day patch, let to dry. 1 day spray, let to dry. 1 day clear coat, let to dry.

That's how RM988 still get little bit of margin.

You know there is a saying "1st coat of paint is the best paint" right? there is definitely some truth in it. I know a lot here will say OEM paint system from H la, T la or whatever brand, to be very chekai la, too thin la, cheat material la etc etc. But believe it or not, that coat has the best consistency long-term wise. All you (car owner) have to do is to understand its shortcomings and maintain it appropriately.

i agree and understand totally.

my car is 9 years old. and paint is still good. and i try to maintain it well but not like every week wash like some enthusiastic people.
just wash (shop) and wax (myself) when i can

but i wouldnt go so far to say i wont repaint in the future. but i'm thinking for 15 years old car la..or maybe 10 years. which you dunno what might happen.

Shop is in Melaka, plus the guy is retiring, his brother already retired and the son didn't want to take over the business.
He no longer do full repaint and only accept regular customers for minor spray repair.

Because the original factory paint is the best
