to make things simple...start off with auto mode..once you get familiar with your cam..then only start using other settings...

The 3 main key components is shutterspeed, aperture and exposure. And later on you'll learn about lighting. Start off with auto mode, later on move to semi auto mode and finally manual. And read the manual properly. It's a very good starter guide for new comers.

Hi fren..what u meant cant get clear pic.. D70 can produce a good and clear pic already even w/ standard lense..

So.. i suggest u.. get use to the camera and the setting 1st..
unless u have $$$ then it's up to you if you want to buy better lenses..

definitely start with A or P mode 1st.
when u get bored of the simplicity, get to M mode

you will notice the pictures are different than those you take last time
why?

Most importantly, from what I learnt, no matter how good your camera is, make sure you get a good lighting source. If you are inside a poor lighting area and you tend to shake a lot, then you get the blurry picture just making your $$ camera like a cheap thing. That is of course if you want to take natural colour of the area and can be easily eliminated by using the built-in flash but isn't going to produce nice lighting effect though. Also, take note of the ISO setting according to the lighting, lowest ISO for bright day light or good lighting source, higher ISO for poorer lighting environment.

Therefore, practice with handling your camera and once you get use with it and if you feel confident with your skills, then time to get an speedlight upgrade smile.gif

hey thanks for all your responds... i'm not talking about geetinga new lens just that i feel that my stock lens can't take a proper ic pic in micro mode. it seems to be blur compared to my ixus.

can anyone gtive a example of a setting to take a proper ic pic? i dont mean take pic FOR ic but instead the ic itself. can seem to get the words clear.

i know i have to learn the 3 basic elements but it's really hard to remember the proportion between them. anyone free to give me a simple guide?

thanks

I am sorry to inform you that, having a DSLR is not the same as having a Point and shoot camera like your ixus. Your ixus maybe able to do everything in one, but not the DSLR.

For a DSLR, you would need different lenses to perform different shots.

To take macro shots, you would need a lens which has macro capability.

Your kit lens cannot do so.

So, even if you have the right settings, but not the right lens, You wont be able to shoot in macro.

IMHO, it's going to be hard to take a picture of the IC.

Using your kit lens, you would need to zoom all the way to the max, and then only you can focus on the IC. You can't shoot it up close, but you can make sure the IC is in focus. Next, I suggest you to use a tripod as you wont be able to use flash in this shot, cause if you use flash, you will get a bright reflection off the IC. Using a tripod, it will prevent blur photos.

The settings I would suggest is, use A mode. Turn it to the smallest F no. Turn off flash, use higher ISO. And shoot using a tripod. Best is to even use timer on a tripod.

Can you imagine, just to take a picture of the IC is so cumbersome? I personally wont do so, and use the P & S camera to do it.

You have a lot to learn about DSLR photography.

The reason your kitlens or standard lens cant take pictures of your IC is because its not cut out for macro.

To take a close up shot of your IC, filling up the entire frame with words clear, you will need either a close up filter for your kit lens or a Macro Lens.

Your Ixus can take a picture of your IC is because your Ixus has a macro mode for taking close up shots smile.gif

Yeah, for DSLR, nothing comes in one package. DSLR is a very versatile camera and that is why, you need an appropriate lenses for the function you need. For the macro, I could suggest this http://nikonimaging.com/global/products/le...28_if/index.htm

It's the best lens from Nikon but it's gonna cost you a lot for it.

Kitlens is just like a basic lens for you to start-up and go using it out of the package. It's actually quite good for a group pics or landscape. I mean, I got my AF-S DX Zoom-Nikkor 18-70mm f/3.5-4.5G IF-ED (3.8x) along with my D70s, its actually a good lens, very practical lens for everyday usage. Unless, if you want to go into more specific area, then, you should purchase additional lens to accommodate those fields. Maybe you should check out Nikon site for more details on specific lenses functionality. http://nikonimaging.com/global/products/lens/af/index.htm
