There is going to be a new firmware update for Nokia N95 this coming december which is v21.0.001, it is already released for beta testers, well some major improvements are the increased value of available RAM and the option of Demand Paging and more And also watching Youtube videos!!

try and update it. if it shows the latest is v12 then use NSS ( Nemisis Service Suite) to change the product code, yes you can back up using that

N95 Users are recommended to format your microSD card after you update your N95's firmware for better User Experience.

Just use PC Suite to back up. Everything that's on the phone memory will be backed up.

The answer is no! Unless you want to brick your phone, because the N95 8GB has different hardware from the N95-1. Anyways there are methods to modify your N95-1 to make it look like N95-2. Themes, etc. The new v21.0.015 firmware has already made not much difference from the other N95 devices.
