Hi there, I am currently in the middle of my renovation. Just want to share my experience with you. First of all you need to ask yourself, why you need to engage an ID? Too busy, no clue or you think ID will find the best contractor for you etc? After meeting up with 3 to 4 IDs, I came to the conclusion it is better for myself to engage the contractors I trust to do the work needed. Price is one thing, but rather it is I think the ID will not do a good job with a high price premium than I do it myself (ie supervise the contractors etc).

But it is very very hard work. So if you are busy and don't mind paying a premium, by all means engage one. The situation in JB now is bad. A lot of the IDs either close down or in difficulties. Prices of EVERYTHING gone up big time... This is definitely not a good time to do renovation or buying electrical appliances etc. Those surviving reputable IDs, they have a lot of work on hand due to the various MCO delays. Meaning a lot of good contractors who survived will be busy serving other projects.

For East Ledang, there will certainly be a few IDs there especially those that did the showroom. But be prepared to pay higher rate. Iskandar area will always attract a higher price from IDs and contractors in JB. My own renovation will be delayed by a couple of weeks due to one contractor (furniture, cabinets, wardrobe) too busy. Even my electrical guy came to install all lightings etc because he is all booked until next year. East Ledang should be strictly Mon to Fri excluding Public Holiday schedule.

Not a good time to do renovation now, but the joke is who is to say next year will be better especially when the border opens. A lot of folks working in SG now stuck with their houses in JB, waiting to get keys etc.

Good luck finding one good ID. I can tell you from my experience it is really tough to find one that's good and will deliver what he promised.

edit: removed the original TS because he posted last year! lol....

thank you!

I managed to engage a contractor and not and iD. some of the IDs were quoting exorbitant prices as you rightly pointed out. And some were not that interested to begin with. I am in a hurry to move in, hence, decided to go with a contractor.

However, facing some challenges as it is an existing house with some issues.

tall the best to you too!
