i take ritalin.. it helps me to focus on one thing at a time.. i only take when i have to do my job.. off meds, my mind will overload.. it's like turning on tv but the tv is showing multiple channels at once.. with the med there is only one channel on the tv

Need mod to move this thread to serious or other more appropriate place. /k will attract too many trolling answers.

Would like to know also.

My son was diagnosed with ADHD once, though now I think he's out grown it and turn into something else. But his behaviour is so... Unique in a bad way. Sometimes I feel like there's something clouding his judgment, which more and more I fear need medications to control or alleviate.

if you mean it can make me become smarter, not really.. it just helps me to be able to do my job without sensory overload.. it's like when you're short sighted and you wear glasses to be able to see clearer..

As in changes your life in a way that you feel like you can achieve a lot of things because of being able to finally focus. I am not diagnosed, will book an appointment soon.

I feel so overwhelmed with simple tasks. It’s affecting my work too. I try my best not to show my symptoms and do just enough to stay safe. But deep down inside i feel so overwhelmed and feel like shit if I underachieve.

I work in Singapore. I’m gonna go with the private psychiatrist here ($400 sgd consultation) and medication i heard is around $5 sgd per tablet of ritalin. Given how suffering you are, do you think it’s worth it despite the cost of consultation and meds?

Sorry, I'm not familiar with that symptom.

The closest diagnose of him, in my opinion, is PDDNOS.

He was once diagnosed with autism (mild), asperger, ADHD (this one I think was correct at one stage of his childhood years) and now probably is PDD-NOS but showing sone wild emotional fluctuations. These bursts, or episodes, are what worries me, he may need medications to help control them.

I heard if you're Malaysian and can get pills from govt hospital, it's much much cheaper. Maybe RM3 per pill.

The meds will not change your life. It helps but won't help you to become normal like neurotyoical. Ritalin have few 1-2 hours effect while you live 24 hours day. With meds you can become 25%-40% as productive as normal people is. Still better than zero. Of yeah that bazillion of ideas will stuck stuck in the head

ADHD people need professional training and meds. Without professional training, the limited focus will be wasted

Difficult to describe accurately.

He gets annoyed quickly by his younger bro (who obviously likes to disturb him)
He cannot accept being told he's made a mistake and will often have a tantrum if told to correct his work.
Lacks focus during classical learning sessions, conversation, etc. As such, his school lessons go through his right ear and out his left. He often speaks words that he doesn't know the meaning of, or the implication of speaking it.
Likes to doodle, replicating the end credit of movies visually or even word by word. He has tons of old school (note) books filled with such. On the upside, he has good memory. He like symbols and logos, after his passion with the alphabet when he was 2 yo. We cannot stop him from doodling, it's probably something that soothes his mind. He'll have a milder tantrum if told to stop.
Unfortunately, like many other kids, due to the pandemy, he's now hooked on his tablet. He will be most violent if we take it away, or limit his access to it (but we have to do it anyway, because it's not beneficial for him to use it all the time. I'm currently using family link from google to control his access).
Another upside, at least he doesn't hold grudges. Once he's had his tantrum (for example, after I limited his access to Whatsapp to only 2 hrs per day), he will accept it and live with the decision.

Will be 13 this month. He looks a bit older, though. 166cm tall already.

He acts quite a bit younger, as do people with certain disorders.

His tablet cannot access YouTube through the app, but there are workarounds, like sending a link in whatsapp can open the video within whatsapp itself.

But at least I have the kill switch, which locks his tablet and prevent any use other than making an emergency call (gsm/3g/4g line).
