Hi, my iPad Pro 9.7" battery is dying too quickly.

According to Switch, there is no battery replacement service for iPads, only device exchange ($$$).

I'd like to know if it is worth it to change the iPad battery at a third-party repair shop. Is it a difficult repair (i.e., high risk of device breakage)? How much is it normally.

how much is the value of  device exchange they offering ?

Basically, it is Like-for-like exchange service, so about RM 2000 since it is not a swollen-battery issue.

To revisit this topic, RM 2K is out of warranty exchange for a (refurbished) unit. However, due to the low number of iPad Pro devices, you will probably end up with a new unit.

In warranty repair requires the Apple Authorized Service Provider to run some battery test, which might not show any problem if it is still running but with degraded usage time. In that case the RM 2K fee will still apply if you insist on replacing it. The only time device replacement is done at a lower cost is due to bulging batteries.

It is not worth it in my opinion since a new iPad 8 gen is faster than the iPad Pro 9.7”, except foe the pro-motion screen and quad speakers.

Ended up getting the battery serviced at a third party repair shop. But somehow iPad Pro battery replacement isn’t really available. One shop outright refused to do the replacement. The other shop i tried did something for RM 200, the unit which was not powering on when I sent it in is working again but the battery life still sucked and drains to zero within one day just idling.

Bought a new iPad 8 gen as a replacement and the old iPad Pro is used as a HomeKit configuration terminal now.

How long you had your 9.7” ipad pro?

My ipad pro 11” 2018 bought in 2019 is 2 years now. I foresee it will share the same fate as yours few years down the road, which is normal to all electronic devices that use batteries i guess?

I think it was purchased early 1997. Yes, all batteries will deteriorate over time. However, how fast it degrades depends on whether you drain it to 0 all the time or if you keep the charge between 20%-80% all the time.

The current iOS smart charging regime is supposed to help in this regard, to not overcharge (100% battery charging all the time when plugged in) until it is needed for use.
