Hiyas,

Was just trying to get a feel of this. Am asking now as it probably might take that long to organize everything. If there's enough interest, that is.

Some numbers based on this year's convention.

US Visa : USD100 / RM360
Ticket per pax : USD 100 / RM360
Hotel per night (across the street) : USD 100 / RM 360 so 4 days (1 day arrive, 2 days convention, 1 day pack and ciao) is USD 400 / RM 1440
Air Ticket to LAX : RM5,000 with MAS
Transportation between LAX & Hotel : USD42 / RM151 so 2 way is USD84 / RM302
Food @ USD25 / RM90 a day? So 4 days is USD 100 / RM360

Total is approximately : RM 7822 / USD 2173.

Hmmm...so maybe need something like RM8K just for a BlizzCon trip. Could probably get it cheaper going as a group and booking early but still a hefty sum of money.

So, anyone interested?

Postnote : Correction on the hotel fees. So looks like less by RM2K. RM8K would be enough if inflation not too high.
Post-postnote : Added in US visa.

I thought so too until I sat down number crunching.

Put it this way. There's a number of Malaysian tourists going on tours in Europe and USA paying probably nearly the same amount? Probably cheaper because it's one big group so they can get the discounts. But still, tourist travel isn't any cheaper either.

Only the accomodation and flight ticket are expensive but they are both variables. Staying further away may be cheaper but more tiring after a convention to stay too far away.

calculation error. that's what you get when using a cheap RM2.50 calculator.

Talk about getting an explosive reaction. LOL! I was just wondering who was interested as I wouldn't mind making the arrangement if no one FFK the trip at the last minute.

Me, I'm not sure yet. But it is a long way away and probably will be able to save up, provided that nothing major happens along the way that is money draining.

Sharing rooms will cut it down a lot as well as sharing transportation and group airfare. Besides, it was a thought. smile.gif And time is still so far away that maybe enough time to save up. The estimated costs up in the calculations are for one of the hotels that is within walking distance rather than having one that is really far away. Not easy to find taxis at these kind of big conferences so other choice is actually hiring a car and driving there.

The biggest chunk would be the airfare. If held during the peak season, the prices will be in the different of RM1K- RM2K, depending on the fuel prices. My aunt works as a travel agent so can usually get cheaper fares and easy to make changes, less hassle, blah blah blah.

California is a nice place. Friendly people. And yeah, you get to be in the big USA. Sightseeing can be cheaper if a car is rented but still a lot of walking and confusion too. Their signboards on the road are hard to see although roads and parking spaces are bigger than here. Not to mention driving on the other side of the road too.

And yeah, it's BlizzCon. Conferences are tiring and Odinn is right by saying that it would be similar to PC Fair where it's crowded and full of people. Still, would be interesting to see and experience. And to meet up with other players there.

US visa seems easy to get if you go on a business trip. Personal trip maybe still possible.
