It really depends on how deep/big the hole. The thing is, it’s very difficult to estimate, as the doctor need to clean it up, then only know how much the can put in putty.

This is right, you can ask the dentist a rough estimation after checking and consulting.

One more thing, it depends on which tooth, and the filling material. If it’s front tooth, u cannot use amalgam as it is not aesthetically good due to color but it has good strength. Front teeth they use resin composite and will match the exact color(pls inform the doc) of your teeth - from dentist waifu

If a dentist use amalgam for front tooth .... what more to say about the dentist.

Oh I’m just saying for information as amalgam is cheaper, u need to tell the doc that if they have same color filing to match the teeth. Some clinic don’t have much stock. Then it will be either too white, or slight yellow.

I should say these matching fillings are standard with every dentist even without a patient requesting. I cant imagine a patient without knowledge after filling and see a different colour filling. Even if the patient have budget constraint, its the dentist moral duty to inform the patient the end result of a cheaper filling.

If he runs out of stock, the best is to schedule another appointment rather than having it too white or slight yellow.

Just a discussion ... cheers.

amalgam was an option back in the day when technology for white filling wasn't so good. Usually done at areas not obvious when smiling.

Did mine in Puchong. Cost RM80-100. Dentist is very skillful and patient. Good quality fill too, can last very long. Some cakai 1, came out after a few bite.
