Yeah I think the mini is really great for secondary phone or iPad Laptop user.

If you prefer big screen just use iPad if you want take photos just use Camera.

maybe. no love for ip12 lol.
rm800 differences right there. can get apple watch.

the moment 13 pro out with pro-motion, most gonna butthurt lol.

ip12 is a reasonable upgrade.

Definitely butt hurt. I felt that this seems like a last version of Pro model with 60hz display. I have been using Pro motion in iPad. Just can't understand why Apple not putting this in their pro version.

I start noticing the one bought Mini is really treating the phone as a phone. Mainly use as phone call, social media messaging, light usage of media consumption.

But not a device that trying one fits all with photography, youtube, editing, browsing and everything else.

Pick up my mini but haven't put in sim card yet. Just playing around with apps and browsing.

Coming from 6inch google phone,

First impression:
1. Typing experience : typing in small device takes time to get used to it.

2. Photos : I don't like the instant blur effect from POTRAIT mode in iphones. I prefer with the after shot edit depth effect from google.

3. Homescreen : Why you can't arrange icon anywhere in the homescreen. Screen is small but icon size remained same?? I love Android that you customize the icon size to your preference.

4. Display : OLED screen is so clear and beautiful. You can't notice lag in a 60 hz screen.

5. Holding the phone : You can't describe the feeling holding one device with so least effort after so many years. RIP phablet.

6. Kill apps - coming from Android. I have habit kills off all apps from time to time. Usually swipe up and press kill all apps. Now have to one by one swipe up to kill all is killing me.

16:09 - THIS is what iPhone is doing with your face as MKBHD has mentioned. Is it bad? Not at all. Is it "natural/neutral"? Definitely not.

There is nothing wrong with beauty filter or brightening of skin which makes your skin tone "pleasing to the eye". It's not a bad feature from iPhone 😅.

I like it. iPhone users love it. I'm just stating what I have observed straight from Pixel 4 to iPhone 12.

Tons of reddit thread and other reviews also noticed this face filter. Samsung is just more aggressive in this regard.

I guess only Pixel users would really understand since our point of comparison is a Pixel and not Samsung. ✌️

Haha once used Pixel..It's very hard to see another phone photos anymore. Takes time to adjust.

Wow, You are a champ! Instantly feels so much better!! Thanks..I was wondering what causes me..this could be one of the reasons.

I just remember Google Pixel is using the natural color of the display. Never thought of this.

Remember use the double back tap or triple back tap to turn off/on reduce white point easily without the need go to setting adjust ...

Bcuz if u on reduce white point under strong sunlight... the screen is so dark

Thanks for the tips! I seriously consider to change it because I’m really suffered from eye strain in this few days even though I didn’t use much on the phone. Only reply on Whatsapp and play with the settings.

I thought I’m old 😁

Sent my iPhone Mini to repair center due to migraine. I have no idea if it's me or what? I can't even focus on the text in my iPhone.

Thought it would be better by reducing white point(light/dark mode/brightness) or my brain could adjust it after week of use. But I can't. I have tried with all the 12 models demo unit in the stores. Apparently it's fine for me (at least I can focus on the icon text)

Now waiting for the update from the Apple HQ.

Here is the message

I found something helpful... not only low brightness flickering will cause headaches and eye strain... but faceid attention aware features will also cause headaches and eye strain...

See this video... the red light keep blinking even unlocked...

Red light blinking + display flickering = deadly combo

I think now ur problem probably due to faceid attention aware feature cuz u set to 50% brightness still got headaches and eye strain

Wow, I didn't get to login into Lowyat for a few days and you are helping me so much. Thanks, Bro! I am really glad that you went all out to find and suggest everything for me. I have to keep in the note and will try it when my device back from Apple HQ. Currently, I have sent my iPhone Mini to Apple HQ using the reason for display flickering.

From the look of it, the Face ID could be one of the reasons as well. Will try when the device back to me smile.gif

It's surprising to me that actually there are a bunch of people having headaches out there but not here in Malaysia. That's weird.

Finally got back my device.

Here is some update.

user posted image

Apparently, there is some display issue and fixed by restoring by them.

Now, I felt much better compared to last time that I can’t even focus a single text in my iPhone. At least I don’t have developed headaches for now (finger crossed). Will give it more time to test before conclude anything.

I installed a dim screen protector and turn up the brightness also reducing the OLED flickering.

I’m curious, what’s a dim screen protector? Where can i find it?
*
Yea something like privacy protector. Bought it in Taibao. Mine is reducing bluelight, bla bla etc. I’m sure you can find it easily.

Phone display definitely feels dimmer after installed. So i can turn up the brightness to reduce flickering.

2 minutes read if you are a tech geek

If not:
Long story short:
- Thoughts on iPhone 12 mini
- iOS is great but boring
- Pictures of iPhone is OK compared to Pixel
- Video on iPhone is superb
- Apple Ecosystem just OK
- Resell value of iPhone is great
- Android if you are a tech geek

Ended.

Here is the geek part:
Just so you guys know I was researching that if Pixel 2XL to 5 is worth upgrading. However, the camera sensor of Pixel 5 and the difficulties of getting it here in Malaysia holding me back. I was contemplating switching to the iPhone 12, and I eventually did. I decided to make the switch as I no longer thought of myself as a power user I want everything just works (no rooting, no customization). For a little context, my last iPhone is the iPhone 5s.

Here are some of my thoughts after a month of iPhone 12 mini use.

Experience:
+ve: App integration 100%. Everything just works. Whatsapp camera & sharing Instagram stories. No crash no lag. Well optimized. And you get to taste some of the exclusive iOS apps which is designed for it.
The taptic engine is something google should introduce on the Pixel as it sparks joy so much. Especially when you double tap in Instagram posts, you'll feel the device is responding back to you. It's soooo good.
One-handed phone feels so great after so many years of pha-blet.

-ve: Miss the swipe back of the Android feature.
People that are saying Apple is better. I bet they haven't used Android in a good long while. Android has come a long way. The animations of iOS are just as good on the Android side. The way the gestures work on iOS, Android has caught up with them. The swipe back gestures are much more uniform in Android. In iOS, in certain app you can swipe right back then another app you have to swipe down then another app you have to tap X. WHAT THE ???

Notifications:
iPhone is a nightmare. Android is the master here. I have to turn it off because it just not as good as Android. The grouping, sound for every dedicated app - Android is ahead.

Pictures:
Much warmer tone in iPhone. Won't notice a big difference unless you zoom in the details. But I really miss the natural scene of Pixel.

Video:
This is the department I think iPhone crushed every phone out there. Video is way way ahead of my previous phone. The HDR video recording looks so great and the stabilization is really good for handheld usage.

Ecosystem:
That’s what peoples talk about all the time. “I have Mac, Airpod, iMac Apple watch. It integrated so well! “
I do not have Apple Watch, Airpod, HomePod, iMac so I do not feel any special about it because there are plenty of alternatives out there.

Price:
iPhone always has the best resell value when it comes to phones. Price of flagship Android phone drop 20-30% after months.
Unlike Android, the competitor of the iPhone is the iPhone itself.

If you plan to use till it broke, go Android
If you plan to resell it, go iPhone.

Conclusion:

So is the iPhone 12 mini a good phone? Yes, it most certainly is. The hardware is great and the camera is so great.

If you're an early adopter or want the latest tech feature stuff, you should go for Android.

iPhone is amazing, amazing but boring. Boring but it just works whenever you want it to.

I'll keep it for now.

thumbup.gif Nice case! Will plan to get this for this year's iPhone... hehehe...
Agree on most accounts. Also never tried a Pixel phone before so will hold off on the comments on the Pixel's photo quality only for the fact I have never personally experienced it for myself. Great and fair write-up!
*
Pixel is great but google got too complacent for this. I believe many phones already caught up actually. They are still using the old sensor in their pixel phone.

Good thing about it. The color is natural only. Other than that, you will find it in other flagship phone already.

Anyone planning to keep the 12 Mini long term? Its really nice to use and navigate but really gotta admit its a lil small for games and movies.
*
I bought this Mini because I have been with Android for 7 years and want to try back iOS. Also because of the lower price and new design. I also want to lower my screen time on phone.

The weight of Mini is definitely feels nice to me when day to day use. But then when it comes to productivity like editing short video, publishing blog the small screen definitely hurts in long run.

I’d say Mini is like a probation period for me of using iphone while waiting for the pro version iphone with 120hz. I will sell this mini and get the pro version this year if its 120hz.
