Actually the 12 seems to be like a good balance between size and price now, for those who don't need the telephoto lens. It's a big upgrade over the 11 in terms of the display quality and it's also more compact than the 11. Definitely a good choice!

Assume you are eyeing the Blue colour then laugh.gif
*
the upgrade is significant. just the display alone is totally different level. tongue.gif
no point to get iphone 11 now even it is 'cheaper'.

Ya, those who are on a tighter budget may consider the 12 Mini instead of the 11 for RM500 more.
*
yes. iphone 12 mini is actually quite interesting iphone this year due to its size. tongue.gif

Will the extra 2gb make big difference?
*
in long run yes, likely iphone 12 pro may be able to use longer than iphone 12 due to the extra RAM.

OLED / A14 (better modem)= yes
5G = maybe 2021 / 2022

RM1000 still a huge gap if 2021 IP may has small notch (or notchless design) and USB-C  laugh.gif but it's another topic all together...
*
unlikely, if u know apple's style well. they dun refresh the design nowadays until 3 years later.

6/6P -> X -> 12

likely this 12 design will be here for few more years before it gets redesigned again.

i have been changing iphones always when there is a redesign.

6P -> X -> 12 Pro Max. haha.

Me too..

5 --> 6S --> X -->12 Pro Max
*
nice.

i miss 5 though. that time did not manage to get iphone 5 during first batch, then ended up with the samseng note 3 and vomited blood. eventually only one choice for phone.

3GS (first iPhone) -> iPhone 4/4S -> 6P -> X -> 12 Pro Max/12 Mini.

Icic. Thought ios is less memory heavy like Android.
*
iOS is less memory intensive for sure. but more memory will make it even last longer.

good example will be iPhone 6/6P vs iPhone 6s/6sP.

although it is just one year difference.

iPhone 6/6P has one iOS lesser than iPhone 6s/6sP since the launch date.
iPhone 6/6P stops at iOS 12 while iPhone 6s/6P now still support iOS 14.

the deal breaker is the RAM in them. Former has only 1GB RAM while later has 2GB.

Yeah, that’s why previously a number of folks recommended that we just use the iPad 12W charger for the right balance between price and charging times, but now that Apple’s 20W charger costs just RM10 more than the 12W one, it’s a no brainer smile.gif
*
yes, in fact, i am happy with my 2 x ipad 10w charger to charge my two iphones all the time.
never tot of investing in fast charging accessories at all. tongue.gif

I think ip12pro is better buy because of 6gb of ram compare to 4gb on ip12. More ram equal to much longer support for ios. Plus its only 800 bucks more from the ip12 (128gb ver). Classic case with 6 vs 6s, later model until now still support ios14 because of an extra ram it got. If you buy with your telco, ip12pro is a no brainer choice.
*
yeah. agree. more RAM sure will improve the performance on daily basis or even prolong the iOS support.

good example will be iphone 6 vs 6s.
6 stops at ios 12 while 6s now still supports ios 14. the RAM difference (1GB vs 2GB) is the key to this.

QUOTE(@POTUS @ Oct 16 2020, 06:04 AM)
The extra ram is not user accessible la, it is reserved for camera to process image, this tradition starting from iphone 7 and 7+.

Btw, i dont think apple will selectively to support their products. For example support iphone 8 plus but retire iphone 8? I think they will retire the whole generation
*
it is possible they only retire iphone 8 vs 8 plus due to RAM difference.
(still got sometime before coming to this to confirm).

RAM does make a difference to users. How often the app refresh or close before reload on iPhones also rely on the amount of RAM.

- lidar
- third telephoto camera
- ProRAW for the photo
- nicer stainless steel material
- 128GB base storage
- 6GB RAM vs 4GB
- on apple's website, 12 pro has typical max brightness at 800nits (1200nits max) vs 12's 625 nits (1200nits max), because 12(LG) oled display is from different manufacturer than 12
pro(Samsung)
- 12 pro is 25 grams heavier
- 12 don't have night mode portrait
- 12 dolby vision video recording limited to 30fps vs 12 pro's 60 (normal video recording mode for 12 still have 60fps for 4K)

with same storage 128GB, the price difference is rm800

looks like 12 have some features artificially restricted...
*
rm800 for the extra ram of 6GB maybe a consideration for some to go for pro instead.

but personally i will go with 12 pro max which it will totally worth it than 12 pro given the price difference is not significant.

yeah apple is sneaky, trying to bump up the average revenue per iphone in sales. 12 pro max has sensor stabilization, 2.5x zoom telephoto and bigger display for rm400 difference...
*
yes, it is totally a marketing strategy.

the existence of iphone pro 12 is for majority to go with iphone 12 becos it will make the price attractive and make a easier choice for people to buy it. while for people who have the budget for iphone 12 pro will think that by spending a little bit they can get iphone 12 pro max at much more values.

those who really will go for iphone 12 pro are those without budget constraint but really want a best iphone at the size becos they find the pro max too big. tongue.gif

much like their pricing structure for ipad air 4 vs ipad pro now.

That is my main concern between iphone 12 and 12 pro, with 6gb i think the background can run much smoother.

My 7 plus with 3gb ram can feel the lagness when too much of background task running, 6gb ram i think can last u easily 3-4 years down the road.
*
yes, 6GB ram may allow more versions of iOS than 4GB ram device.

that 64GB mini enough kah?

I feel like nowadays, every business wants you to download their app. Starbucks, bonuslink, all the banks etc etc ....
*
dun waste time with 64gb, it just simply limits the capability of your new iphone. go BIG or go HOME. tongue.gif

My concern for the Mini is the battery life, haha. Luckily we'll get some reviews before the phone reaches Malaysia
*
worst case scenario will be the same as iphone 8 or iphone SE 2? dun think will be anything worse. if u are ok with them, should be ok for iphone 12 mini too.
