My main concern with e-SIM is I cant switch phone easily.

Sadly the border is closed this year else I will get the dual-sim slot variant from HK.

no, stuck with esim and I completely forgot that I had an esim until I read this thread since last year around November. No issues faced at all.

What about if you lost your phone, or the phone is being repaired. Are you able to quickly provision a physical SIM quickly at the kiosk?

If the phone is wiped or reset, do I need to go to the carrier and provision an eSIM again?

Appreciate your clarification.

Malaysia model only support 5G (sub-6 GHz)?
*
5G mmWave is only supported on US models.

esim doubts...

when you wipe/reset iPhone, it will ask you whether want to remove esim profile
i tried remove esim profile when reset, after that I use back the same qr code is okay, but what I did not test is when changing phone

been using Xs with maxis esim and til 11 pro, Maxis told me cannot reuse when I got my 11 pro at maxis center, so i use the new qr code maxis provided for new 11 pro last year

I do believe qr code can reuse, but i unsure whether is carrier lock it or not
I have few travel esim profile which i attached to my iPhone Xs, when I got my 11 pro, only maxis esim I scan the new one, the other two travel esim profile I use my 11 pro rescan no issue, and can be use oversea last year.

So, esim still have some doubts like, when phone spoilt, send for warranty etc.... how to use it on spare phone, in the case even your spare phone have to support esim sweat.gif
best is local sim card using physical sim... smile.gif unless you have secondary line, secondary line go for esim

Thanks for the info. This clear up all my concerns on eSIM.

I will prefer to use eSIM as the main SIM as it's easier to get a physical travel SIM when travelling overseas.

Now I need to find out is it possible to get a physical SIM from the Maxis ATM kiosk in the rare situation where I need one once I switched to eSIM.

the only telco i know can immediately generate qr code for new/replacement is yoodo sweat.gif perhaps xox can also...
other telco should have follow.... else current covid situation, we dont know any time CMCO... MCO... comes
else it will be troublesome getting a replacement esim qr code when something goes wrong

actually travel sim nowadays a lot go E, the esim package seems reasonable, even for the local country plan, you may look at here to find one if needed https://esimdb.com/
just that some travel esim profile need to pay (like USD2) a fees to get the esim qr code without any plan

So, it's possible to purchase the eSIM and just use it once landed? Definitely a huge plus to eSIM for the convenience.

I am still doing the old school way by going to the airport kiosk upon landing.

Are you able to have dual eSIM standby on your current iPhone?

Everyone of us is still using the old school way of buying a physical sim at the airport upon landing. That is why I'm on the physical dual sim Iphone from HK. On whether you would be able to purchase an ESim and use it once landed will depend on that particular telco. You would still need to be connected to the internet first upon landing before you receive your E-Sim. So I still think physical sim would still be the easier and faster method.

Dual ESim standby is possible on the current iphones. IINM you can have up to 7 different Esims stored on your phone at any time.

Where do you get the HK model in Malaysia?

Couldn't travel now due to COVID and based on my experience, the first batch is always hard to get in HK due to scalpers from PRC.

Anyone has got any ideas if Mal Telco implementing MMWave or Sub6 5G ya?
*
mmWave is really costly to roll out as it requires a ton of base station to be built. Not to mention the entire infrastructure stack is non-existent.

There will be certain spot with mmWave just for telco to brag but widespread roll out is unlikely within the next 3 years.

Our 4G is not even up to global standards like Taiwan or Korea.

Any written confirmation on this? Or it's understood coz it's 5G?
*
Pretty much confirmed due to 5G modem. Published by plenty of media sources as well.

Is the intel modem on the 11 Pro series that bad in network reception?
*
Yup, especially when you have a second phone with a Qualcomm modem to compare.

When coming out from a basement, the iPhone will always be the slowest to get 4G signal back.

MagSafe charges at 15w while standard Qi charges at 7.5w. That’s 2x the Qi standard enabled for iPhones.
*
I wonder if Apple is going to support 15w on third party Qi chargers.

My Samsung Qi Charger since 4 years ago already supported 15W wireless charging.

lol i try to use ruler draw out the size for iphone 12 pro and pro max

i realised this new 12 phone are LONGER from top to bottom and thinner(or narrower) from left to right compare to 11 series

I wonder why they design it this way? Is to encourage people to watch video by putting it horizontally?
*
The screen aspect ratio is not changed and I am pretty sure that the iPhone 12 Pro Max is a bigger phone than iPhone 11 Pro Max.

iPhone 12 Pro Max
160.8 mm x 78.1 mm x 7.4 mm

iPhone 11 Pro Max
158 mm x 77.8 mm x 8.1 mm

PSA: iPhone 12 series charge at 22.5W peak rate.

The 20W brick from Apple isn't going to provide the maximum charging rate.

I'm going to order another Anker 30W GaN charger this 11.11.

True but their delivery might be slow.
Ugreen 30W does the trick too.
*
I stopped buying Ugreen for anything more than their cables after their 18W charger literally exploded on first day of use.

I guess it is due to bad QC on their part.

What? Exploded?  shocking.gif I been using it for 1 year. Seems good.
*
Yea, it literally popped on the first use which I suspect is due to a capacitor explosion.

I guess I'm just unlucky since there will be defective units in any mass production.

But it makes me doubt their QC process that let it slipped through. doh.gif

Just a stupid question here. If i have power adaptor 18w but its output port is usb. Can i later pair with cable usb to lightning for charging iphone12?

Dont get me wrong. I definitely will buy power adaptor type c later but since i got 1 extra power adaptor usb, so i can keep it in my office as a spare charger.
*
Apple only support USB-C PD fast charging.

You’ll need a PD USB-C power adapter and the USB-C to lightning cable.

wokay~~~ decided to jump ship from samseng s10+ android to IOS!!
looking forward for upcoming ipong 12 max!

lets talk about case. any good case are slim and "protective" against drop? and it wont turn yellow in months. so far i found"slim case". really prefer the naked feeling but i scare my screen will crack once i drop.
another question, charger.

if i use a 100w charger c/w 2 PD and 2 USB
will they damage my phone and other stuff?

will be charging 2 iphone 12 at the same time and a night lamp + other stuff that can charge. if my night lamp only need 1amp to charge the charger wont overcharge my nightlamp right, i remember 1 forumer said, charging amp and speed is depends on device not the charger. the device draw the power from charger. so even i use 100w charger to charge a LED rechargeable nightlamp it wont be dangerous right?
*
What charging brick do you use?

Most decent charging brick will intelligentlly allocate the charging current to each port depending on load. iPhone 12 peak at 23W and I believe your nightlamp is probably just 10W.

At full load, it will be 56W and I guess your brick should be able to handle that just fine, perhaps just warmer than usual when both iPhone drawing at full load.

Damage is unlikely as the MFi chip in the cable and iPhone charging circuit will prevent that.

I think it depends on the car.

Most USB port for CarPlay charge extremely slowly which shouldn't impact battery health.
