Knee wise, you need to know which part and type of pain.

Some knee pains are due to tightness of the other muscles at the calf, thighs and hips.

I met one who wanted to operate on my frozen shoulder without any proper scans as soon as he heard I had company insurance. Fortunately, I backed off. Stretching seems to have cured it.

Just wanted to tell you to be careful and seek second opinions. These guys can be unscrupulous, even with nice sounding titles and awards in front of the "Dr" in their names.

I cured frozen shoulder myself although my company insurance can pay for the treatment. Reason was my colleague went for operation first but only get better by 10%.

A few pharmacists I spoke to now recommend collagen (can't recall which type) instead of glucosamine.

X-ray can see the problem?
*
Usually, an MRI is more telling. And keyhole arthroscopy if there’s any doubt. An X ray is limited to visualisation of bone a d cartilage as soft tissue injuries (eg ligaments, tendons, capsules and even muscles) cannot be visualised (they can be extrapolated) directly by X ray.

Ideally, you should see your primary physician (specialist GP) - preferably one which you can trust - who would then arrange for scans, and then make the referral only after the scans are interpreted.

How old are you first will determine what kind of surgery you need to do, you can get your mri done at private, and bring it to a gov hospital, if your 60 above then you may need a total knee replacement,

in selayang or hkl, the cost for the implant is about 11-13k for acl recon/ meniscus repair , you can use medical card if you have or socso if you have, very minimal for doctor and hospital fee <100, maybe after covid period you can visit

For injection, you just need to pay for the cost of injection which is abt 900-1.3k

Then will be arthoscope to see what seems to be the problem and then fix it, but due to covid you can always do MRI first to roughly know your problem, through examinations and history can also briefly let us know about the problem your facing,

If just meniscus repair its free, if acl recon ard 10k, just for the implant and instrument.

Acl injury happens usually when you have any twisting motion or accident, you will usually feel your knee coming out especially when going up or down stairs or not stable on uneven surface

From your history, its just pain while doing sports, meaning unlikely acl injury, better see a doctor to examine to see what could be the problem, then you can save your money, seems like a meniscus problem, or just osteoarthritis,

Osteoarthritis cn benefit from the supplement your taking or injection, i think in private the injection cost minimally 5k

ACL- no pain
Meniscus - Painful
Articular Damages - Painful

Diagnostic:
Xray- OA (narrowing of gap or habis gel)
MRI- Sometimes can see clearly sometimes no. But will tell if there are any osteoarticular damages

Athroscope- Best invasive technique to see all, Can repair meniscus, Can repair ACL/PCL (if parts sudah beli or standby). Can also do other stuffs.

MC - Athro only (few days can jalan d)
- ACL (1 month) or more
- Osteoarticular damages (Me in this category. Was told up to 6 months)

Personally, I had it all. ACL/Meniscus/Cracked Bone. And now.. Osteoarticular damges. But surgery delayed due to Covid and also I fear ICU recuperation. MAhai.. nanti tak dapat keluar. Coz I got Apnea.

I can't recommend Dr. Chan Kin Yuen at all.

It's been 15 months since he did the surgery to reconstruct my torn anterior crucial ligament (ACL) in my knee but I am still feeling discomfort when I walk despite doing months of physiotherapy. It's not pain but discomfort that I can feel whenever I walk.

Prior to the surgery, I didn't have any pain or discomfort in day-to-day activity whatsoever. The knee was unstable but it was fine for day-to-day activity. The knee instability only affected me if I am involved in some rigorous activity where there's a lot of fast or twisting movement on the knee. The knee gave way only when it was overextended such as when playing sports; only then was there pain.

Now, while my knee is more stable, I have discomfort every day and I feel the knee every time I walk. Not one day do I not think or feel the discomfort in my knee. I regret going for the ACL reconstruction surgery by Dr. Chan Kin Yuen. Please stay away from him.

If you don't have any pain or discomfort in your daily activity, I would advise you not to go for any ACL reconstruction surgery. If you have to go, please go to another orthopaedic surgeon.

Hi, my knee is painful especially when playing futsal. It has been some years. I can still play but got some pain when there is a pressure to the knee.

Any Orthopaedic surgeons doctor (who won't overcharge) to recommend ? notworthy.gif

This is my conclusion from everyone's  thumbsup.gif  contribution here:

1. Go for scan to find out what problem: Go for MRI scan. Xray is not detail enough. This can be done any hospital.
2. After scan we will know the cause. Possible cause: arthritis, ACL, meniscus tear
3. Solution: Operation (3-5 days hospitalization) and long-term (3 months or more) supplement maintenance with Glucosamine + Chondroitin
4. Cost is RM15k-RM20k. Use personal and company medical card.

Doctor recommendation
1. Dr. Gan at KPJ Damansara
2. Dr Chan Kin Yuen in Gleneagles KL.
3. Dr. Khoo at Columbia Asia Hospital in Puchong
4. Dr Low Eu Huat from Tung Shin.
5. Dr Tai from KPJ.
6. Dr Suresh George at Sunway
