Hi sifus. I recently bought a new condo unit which bathroom came with a bathtub and shower head. However, I just realised that the developer did not provide a water heating unit. As this is my first home, I'm unsure how or what kind of water heating unit I would need to provide hot water to both the shower and the bathtub. Any advice would be appreciated.

A storage tank water heater such as a Joven JH series should do just fine. You will need a 45L tank if you have a bathtub and shower.

Also check out if your condo has an owners' group, usually a WhatsApp or Telegram group where you could find the information you require.

Thanks, I did look around but I can't seem to find a owners group for my condo. Possibly because of the low occupancy rate. Would it be possible to use a tankless water heater such as this that I found on Lazada?

https://www.lazada.com.my/products/stiebel-...BSABEgJflfD_BwE

The only issue is that I've seen some comments about this brand (Stiebel Eltron) that it draws alot of power and the wiring might not be able to handle it

I do not know anything about this but at that price a Joven 25L with full inverter is much cheaper.

Yes that is because it is a very big heater (4800W).

The cable specs required 4mm min, but usually the built in wiring is 2.5mm only for the heater power point from developer. So you will need to add a new direct line of wire to the DB box. Also do not forget the 10mA RCD or RCBO (get one from reputable brand like ABB Hager Schneider), this will minimise electrocution risk.

Circuit Breaker (A) - 25A
Recommended Cable Size - 4mm
Rated Power - 4.8kW, 240V

It's above the usual instant (tankless) heaters that typically use 3300-3600W. These you can readily use with existing wiring if its 2.5mm cable. Can consider using the Xiaomi one, much cheaper. https://www.lazada.com.my/products/xiaomi-m...650.16543__null

tankless or more commonly known as instant water heaters wont be able to fill your bath tub. the water flow rate is very low for these type of heaters, wont be able to fill your tub fast and hot enough.

tank storage heaters are so much better, safer, and water pressure is also better than instant ones. get a 30-35L tank is enough. it is also hidden above your ceiling so you dont see any tank, wiring or plumbing

eg. - https://joven-electric.com/product-category...e-water-heater/

first you need to verify if your bathroom already have the hot water piping and wiring. developers usually give these two or not at all (then you have to use instant heaters)

you need to climb up, open the manhole and take a look at the plumbing and confirm the wires are there, or you could confirm with your developer.

if its not setup for storage heaters then it would cost to hack and retile and wiring added.

but if your house already has the piping, and wiring, it cost around maybe 100 to 150 to install - shouldnt be more than 200. i dunno the market price lol

if none then it will be messy. have to hack the wall and tile need to be replace. do you have enough space for the tank? you need to measure from concrete ceiling to plaster ceiling....to see if a tank can fit also
i dunno how much

I am personally using this CENTON Neptune Storage Water Heater, bought from this website - .https://www.onsen.my/products/centon-neptune-series Apparently according to the installer, Centon storage tank is using enamel-coated tank, a newer tank technology with longer lasting leak resistance tank compared to older and more expensive stainless steel tank like Joven and Elton.

Using it for half a year already, use it a lot since WFH since MCO. Very reliable with constant hot water! Recommended ~

Condo? Elton Ignis air cond water heater may work if compressor return piping and water tank can be positioned near each other.

Dear Me Coffey,
Could I ask for the contractor contact that install tank water heater? I have call a few plumber and water heater electrician, they don’t have the skill for tank (built in) water heater.
Appreciate it.

You can try Sasi @ 0126871565. He is based at Klang Valley. He usually charge about RM30 for house visit consultation, if u need someone to advice first before even purchasing the storage water heater.
