Aladdin modchip!! now that brings back good/bad memories! biggrin.gif

bad:
many years back I brought my xbox with a faulty modchip for repair at a popular game shop in curve, owner himself promised me he can do it personally, not thru the shop, paid him RM50 deposit, waited a month yet he still can't repair it nor bother to update me on the repair status. Took back the console and found all 4 case screws are missing, and he can't find it anywhere, that was the last time I stepped into that shop till today.

the good:
brought the console to another tiny game shoplot and pertama complex, Bernard the super friendly owner replaced the busted chip on the spot with aladdin, chit chat with me while doing it, served me drinking water also, took less than 30mins, cost me only RM50. Bought some extra stuffs from him on the spot, Loyal customer with him till I left KL

That sucks...

I don't have much experience like this, haven't been to these independent game shops since I bought my PS2 back in 2002 (which is still working).

Is this Bernard still there? I do not recall seeing game shop in Pertama...

Nope, he closed his shop there many years back and change to doing it online, but he's been MIA for many years here as well, no idea where is he now.

Man, that sucks!

All the more reason for someone to rise up to the challenge to do proper retro console repairs here in Malaysia.

Planning to learn how to do soldering next year haha smile.gif

Haven't been to a gameshop since I bought my modded PS2 back in 2002. It was from Mario Electronics in KOMTAR Penang.

Fortunately my PS2 is still going strong, and I now have a 2TB hard disk installed in it running Open PS2 Loader. Only thing that died is the DVD drive belt, which I am not gonna bother replacing.

This Xbox is the first time I am facing such difficulties with a gaming console.

Phat PS2 with the HDD Network Adapter issit? I sold off mine as it was constantly giving me electrical shocks, and xbox is a much better machine with HDD compared to PS2
