195/55/15 Volkswagen Polo HB

1. Kumho PS31 - Rm145
2. Hankook Ventus Prime 3 -Rm165
3. Conti Ultra Contact 6 - Rm195
4. Michelin Pilot Sport 3 -Rm230

Currently leaning towards Hankook Ventus. How does this tire fare against the others above?
Both Ventus and Kumho PS31 have very good reviews despite priced competitively.
Priority on handling. pilot sport is abit off stretch for me.

what you meant last place btw?

dont plan to go upsize as the 16 inch is the point whr tire gets expensive already. And i just replaced new rims. 😂

answering your question "How does this tire fare against the others above?"

tbh...if you're not pushing and drive at the limit... is good enough

PS3 is the only true good performance tire in that list. PS31 claims to be UHP but not really good and it wears off much faster so the the cheap price does not really become cheap in practice. Prime 3 is not performance tire, just comfort touring tire, same like UC6. UC6 is absolute not worth it for a touring tire at that price point, it's actually the 2nd lowest model from Continental, just 1 level above the crap CC6.

TR1 not sure, some I read ok but got user said not so good too in the wet. It should wear off faster than PS3, maybe around 20-30% faster. Toyo in general is never very good to begin with, decent at best. But the TR1 for it's price around rm160/pc is worth a try.

J5 is normal la, not performance tire but decent for it's price below rm150 if not mistaken.

Personally for me now difficult for this size below rm200. Last time only got the Hankook V12E2 which was an excellent value. Now of I have to buy, maybe I'd just try the new BS RE004, or try find the old Goodyear F1D5.

Ayam was thinking of recommending to TS the Hankook Ventus V12 Evo 2 (or something, forgot the exact name); that model still relevant in today's market?

If not.... TS should just go for PS4... PS4 gooding!

What would be your take between Tr1 vs Prime 3? As both are in the similar price bracket. Im driving averagely at 120-150kmh.

As for higher end bracket, re004 and Ps3 are in the similar price range. How do you compare this two?

I'd try the TR1 coz it's supposedly UHP class with softer compound.

RE004 better in the dry, PS3 better in the wet and a bit more comfortable, last longer. PS3 should be slightly more expensive though.

“soft compound”. UHP tires mostly are made by this compound hence, the durability is reduced compared to other category of tire? As far as i read, tr1 wears much quicker. UHP tires like the ps3 already wears fast already, tr1 wears even faster?

polymer science has come a long way... now they can make the tyre softer, more grip, last longer

ppl who uses uhp tyre and chat in forums probably drive these tyre harder than usual, and thus wear them out faster

wear n tear also depends on alignment n tyre pressure... I had a highway daily drive last time...I set very neutral camber n toe...tyre last me close to 100k km... no further rotation or alignment... lol

PS3 last quite long IMHO, at least around 45k km on a relatively heavy car, maybe 50k km on a small car. TR1 probably around 35-40k km. No need too long lasting tires coz the rubber will get hardened anyway, so around 40-50k km is ideal.

VP3 is 1 class lower than V12E2. V12E2 is almost as good as PS3.

it's lower but not very much lower lah... I think it suits different style and conditions

the prime3 more like a good touring, good mileage and dry performance... the v12e2 looks to be better track and wet performance...

I think you might be able to find RE004 nearer to 200 range and that would probably be the second best if you can't get the PS3.

But I think at most it might just be RM 20 cheaper than PS3. Don't you can get decent 15" UHP tires for sub 200.
