First of all, you must understand the this is an AVR and not a dedicated equipment to upscale your 480p source to 1080i/1080p. Therefore you will not get any marked improvement over existing connections. That's what I said to myself when I bought the Onkyo 705.

If before this, your Astro is connected via S-Video cable direct to your HDTV, then the PQ will be better than if connected via your AVR.

Currently I connect Astro using a better S-Video cable (branded one) to my 705  and then via high quality HDMI cable (also branded one) from the AVR to the HDTV, the PQ actually improved quite significantly (~30%) compared to my original Astro connection via composite cable to the HDTV (my HDTV has no S-Video connection). With a better quality S-Video cable, I no longer get pixelised images on Astro and on top of that I get deeper and richer colour.

As for your DVD, I cannot understand why your PQ deteriorated if your DVD player has upscaling capabilities. You should re-check your connections.

Anyway, you've got a pretty decent system. I just saw the same when I was in Desa yesterday. They are selling the 606 for a very good price.

The 606 cost about RM3.5k at CMY i think, not too sure. Maybe you can enlighten me as i'm still new in this hobby

BTW, Suresh, can i know how is the onkyo and Jamo 6 combination that you bought from Desa? I saw their press ad 2 days ago going for RM5.2k for that set. Was just wondering if its a good match and whether is it worth it..

How about if you connect Astro audio out to TV and then from TV audio out to your amp. Like this if your wife wants to watch Astro she can get just turn on the TV and get sound. If you then want better sound just turn on the amp as extra.
