those 4308, 3808, 2808, 2309....it's all mid-level to the US/UK customer....their prices there are so competitive with the Yamaha prices unlike here....Yamaha seem like proton to everyone and Denon is the Benz and Onkyo is the Jap made....sad.gif

The hifi shop in 1-U having a few units of Denon 2307 for sale at RM1.6k,
superb value....comes with HDMI 1.2a, only loss out at cannot decode the new audio codec only, but if u wanna use PS3 or any BD player which can decode internally with analog out, as your source, they have no problem in receiving the 8 ch LPCM signal....

Added on January 9, 2009, 11:17 amThese are so affordable in SG cry.gif

THX DSPs do a couple of things differently. If you are using Audyssey, Audyssey sets the filters and the equalizers to have a roll off at the high end. THX mode does not. It has a flat output curve. 2ndly, if you want to matrix a 2.0 signal to a 5.1 signal or a 5.1 to a 7.1 signal, THX uses its own propriety DSP to achieve this. Dolby has its own DSP to do this. So it is a different "recipe" to matrix for you. In order to obtain THX certification, the amp goes thru certain steps and is supposedly manufactured to meet THX steps. I believe the main difference is the 1st difference. In other AVRs (Denon) you can decide if you want a flat Audyssey curve or a curve with a rolloff at the higher frequencies, Onkyo did not implement this. It is either standard with rolloff at higher frequencies or off. The only way to get flat outputs is to use THX. Another trick is to set to a THX mode, then pressing Re-EQ, then selecting the respective DSP. This forces the flat curve option in the amp.

My Marantz have these EQ/DSP setting :- THX-Neutral, CS II with other usual PLIIx & Neo:6

for astro, I prefer THX Neutral which give better sound than other.

for Audessey, The SR6003 allowed me to choose:- Audyssey, Flat, Front or Off.

I always use the flat setting, the front setting trying to match all speakers characteristic but it seem a bit harsh for me while Audessey alone seem not enough low LFE.
