Like the Yamaha RX-V1800, they're using Anchor Bay upscaling chip or Denon AVR-2808's Faroudja DCDi upscaling chip but both upscaling performance is pretty average even though the name of those chips used by these AV receivers will raise a few eye browns. From what I have noticed, standard definition sources upscaled to 1080p has more jaggies and noise, yet there are LCDs and Plamas can do a better job in upscaling to the screen's native resolution.

as long as the TV is non standard video transmisson rez, like 1366x768 surely have to rescale and may have to perform deinterlace liao... but the builtin chips usually very weak, I don't think they put in a silicon optix Reon chip inside a 32inch LCD TV unlike many top end projectors.. biggrin.gif

upscale is add pixel for any resulotion.....but upconvert is convert from lower resulotion to higher resulotion without adding the pixel
*
sorry pal, to my understanding, the moment you upconvert (or upscale) to higher resolution means you adding extra pixels..

I think the sound much will depends on the speakers you use...U just can't expect to get deep and accurate low bass when u are using satellite speakers, don't you?
