The marketing and promotion for the film is actually kinda well-handled, but the script is just bad.

His character was meant to have a well structured arc, centred around the theme of vengeance and redemption, but was messed up by bad dialogue and poor acting.

Perhaps when he read the 1st script, it shows that he is the main character so he sign the movie deal for 3 movies.

Seems like he was duped because for the next 2 movies, he was the side character.

Go blame Kathleen "The Force is Female" Kennedy for trying to force social agendas and hiring based on the shape of their genitals. All she had to do was to keep a coherent story across 3 movies, and she failed spectacularly.

Yup, his character serve no purpose in the second and third movie. The first movie gave hints that he could be force sensitive but the second movie made him into a coward in the beginning and the whole force sensitive potential Jedi storyline was thrown down the drain because Rian just wanted to make Rey overpowered. The worse part was his so called adventure to Canto Blight and the so called romance. I thought the romance between Anakin and Padme was bad in Episode 2 but the forced romance of him and Rose was even worst. By the third movie, JJ don't even know what to do with him as the character was destroyed in the second movie

Yup, the character have so much potential and they just throw it down the drain.

It would be cool if they can show both him and ray go for training to be a jedi and fight against the siths.
