Ya that’s why I thought at first. Contactless means online also can in included.
in card payment world, there are 2 usage scenarios:
1)
card-present which is whereby physical card is present to make payment
a) it can be contact/swipe/terminal payment - card need to be physically insert into terminal to read the chip (via the 6/8 gold/silver-plated contact points that you see on the surface of the card)
b) it can be contactless/wave/nfc/tap-to-pay - card need to be near a terminal momentarily to read the chip (via electromagnetic induction aka RFID) -- this is how tng card or employee pass card or any form of rfid card/fob/sticker/etc
both 1a + 1b actually accessing the same card data embedded in the chip. what you see on the surface is just the contact point, not the actual chip

but to most normal ppl, that is the "chip"
2)
card-not-present whereby physical card is not present/required to make payment
