Hi Guys,

I am eyeing on a single storey house but desperately need some advices here. Personally I’m very happy with the whole package of the house and the price is acceptable except it has a slanted entrance. Ive attached the view from inside the house at below.

I was stopped by some of my elderly relatives to purchase the house as they mentioned such entrance will cause a lot of headaches in term of water drainage problems & not good from feng shui perspective. And most of the solutions they know is pretty expensive to modify it.(my reno budget is only 100k max out)

Therefore, I need some advices here to find out whether is there any affordable ways to modify the current slanted entrance or is this slanted entrance that bad till need to be modify? Or would just recommend me to forget about the deal and start searching for other options like what I’ve been told by my relatives?

Many thanks.

Would be easier to find another place since buying such a headache would also mean hard to sell later on.

You raise the driveway means whole house floor level also need to change level.

You update the slope in a way that water flows into the government drain and cut the lines (like mall carpark) also need to spend a few k to update the concrete slab. And should the drain get clogged water will overspill into the house first than the road coz from this pic the house is lower than the main road. Feng shui not good is one thing. Flood risk is definitely much higher and will be a nightmare. Driveway tiles seem to be sloped the wrong way vs the road slope?

If it is culturally important then you know the answer.

Water drainage issues are fairly easy to sort out but changing the house level is extremely expensive to do and you might open up a bigger can of worms.

My suggestion? Look for another house.

Add 1/2 feet to the floor height. Make lots of difference.

It is not worth the trouble unless you get substantial (more than 30%) below market value. Bad fung shui and more importantly flood risk. Fixing this issue will be costly ... like everyone says.

Coz if add 1.5 or 2 feet to floor height means that ceiling becomes very low like PPR flat feels where the ceiling fan is a safety risk, not to mention will need all new doors and retile entire house.

It would be much easier to find another place.

Sorry for noob question, but when buying house under construction how to ensure this does not happen when house is completed? I don't think developer gives topography view of the housing area?

Another case is neighbor next door house is different level than yours.

New houses built will not likely have this problem. This is probably a very old house. This is one of the reasons to buy your house from a reputable developer. Any responsible developer won't build its properties, for example, face East-West directly; road higher than the house; building materials containing harmful chemicals or abestos; etc

Good developers will use competent architects and competent architects won't do bad design such as this. This is bad design in the sense that it is flood risk, bad Feng shui and also dust and dirt magnet. It is also for the developers' own good as badly designed properties won't sell well.

Some developers will provide different elevation views of the building. But usually not relative to the road outside. It is assume it is at least on level or the house is on higher elevation.
