https://www.cnn.com/2020/08/29/health/colon...ople/index.htmlThe world is saddened by the passing of our beloved Chadwick Boseman a.k.a. Black Panther from colon cancer. I’ve read that early colon cancer has no symptoms and it’s often at late stage when it’s discovered. I’m thinking of going for colonoscopy screening but would like to know when it’s the best time to go for it?

Hi. As far as I know, for people who are at low risk (no family history), screening is usually at 50 years old onwards with stool test. However, if you are at moderate or high risk (have family history of colorectal cancer), colonoscopy for screening might be done at 40 years old or 10 years younger than the affected relative (whichever is earlier).

QUOTE(derick123 @ Aug 31 2020, 02:54 PM) Hi. Thank u! Does that mean everyone at the age of 50 years must go for a colonoscopy screening? My mom had a colonoscopy done recently because she noticed blood in her stool. Thankfully no cancer but only piles. Maybe i should convince my dad and all of my older relatives about the importance of this screening.

Not necessarily, but those who are 50 year old and above are very encouraged to screen for colon cancer. Usually, no need colonoscopy at first (only stool test will be done) unless high risk or indicated (have symptoms, stool test positive, etc..). Yes, definitely let ur older relatives know about such screenings.

If you are worried, but fall under the age of 50 and with average risk (no family hisotry of colon cancer or polyps), you can always opt for non-invasive test such as faecal immunochemical test which is affordable. It just look at traces of blood in your stools. You can do this annually if you want to.
