Maybe you can try lower weight with a long eccentric movement/contraction (with correct form) It will still help breakdown muscles while using a lighter weight.

In my case, I have worked with that and your targetted muscle group will still feel sore and "pump".

From there, you can slowly work on the grip strength notworthy.gif
