I have an Ikea TARVA bed frame, and I realise it is an untreated wood, it does not have any finishing like painting/coating, is rough to the touch, like it just came straight out of factory. There is a separate bed slate called LUROY, this one got some painting/coating, like a layer of wax or something that is smooth to the touch, and I want my bed to have that kind of finishing. What kind of coating that I can get? I want it to be transparent and non glossy like the LUROY.

If surface you feel not smooth, then have to use fine sand paper but I think it felt rough because no paint.

Want to keep original look just apply varnish on it. There are several options:

Does varnish have non glossy? I read the article seems like varnish is for outdoor?

I checked the product material of LUROY, it says "Adhesive resin as coating". Also checked some of my ready/custom made furniture at home, also have the same smooth non-glossy coating and natural wood colour (i.e. transparent), not sure what is the coating or what is it called but just want the same thing for my bed.

Just take sandpaper and hand sand it down lightly first.

If you want an ultra matt oiled finish, you can just use finishing oil and rub it in.

Otherwise, you can get clear waterbased clear matt polyurethane lacquer and coat it.

You can find these at ACE, but they can be expensive.

I just used normal timber flooring matt polyurethane finish on my raw wood surfaces because this is what I have on hand.

1. Sand down the frame.. it is unfinidhed so technically its not finished per se
2. Apply lacquer or PU or clear paint to it

Alternately, this can also be used if you are looking for a water-based version. Go to any hardware store and ask for the smallest can without any colorant.
