Packaging:


The packaging is printed in a laminated matte finish. The box is big enough to protect the SSD inside. At the back of the box we have the basic specifications of the SSD, contacts and warranty period listed in traditional Chinese.



Opening it up reveals the SSD itself in a pink plastic bag with a safety/quality seal. The plastic tray gives it extra protection against bump and drops while being transported.

Product Showcase:


To my surprise, the SSD casing itself is entirely metal and there are no screws even underneath the warranty sticker. The Topmore logo on the front is laser etched so it absolutely feels premium when you first see it and especially when you brush your fingers along the etching. After contacting the support team, they confirmed my suspicion that the casing is clamp shut and it is quite impossible to open it up without breaking the casing. While this might seem like a disadvantage for tinkerers like me, it is also quite impossible to repair a SSD by yourself if it breaks down.

The Topmore TP100 SSD is based on the Phison PS3111-S11 single-core SSD controller. PS3111-S11 spec sheet in spoiler below:


I believe that this model is based on the Phison S11-Toshiba BiCS TLC based on the fact that Topmore advertise this is as a TLC SSD. There is no DRAM in this SSD but with the help of the well engineered S11 processor, the TP100 was still able to give us near top of the line performance.

Benchmarks:


First up we have the Anvil's Storage Utilities benchmark with software version 1.1.0. It is a storage benchmark designed specifically to measure SSD performances. I ran the benchmark in default settings. The TP100 scored above 4000, which is a indicates that the SSD has great overall performance.




AS SSD benchmark go through the SSD in a few set synthetic tests, mostly sequential read and write performance of the SSD. With the score of 1100, the TP100 SSD separates itself from low-end SSD with slower speeds while maintaining that price point.



With the score of 537R/521R, the result is slightly below the 553R and slightly higher than the 506R of the advertised speed of TP100 960GB SSD.



Finally we have CrystalDiskMark. What storage review would be complete without it? The synthetic tests can be somewhat customised for the software but I sticked with the default on version 7.0.0.

Conclusion:
With the retail price of RM449 for 960GB and 5 years warranty for the TP100, it is a no brainer when it comes to storage upgrade. Having used other more well-known brand such as the SanDisk Ultra II 960GB and Silicon Power A55 1TB, the performance is definitely up there with the SanDisk and performs much better than the A55 in sustained write.
