Looks like the Mini has been quietly updated with Intel Core 2 Duo processors, 1GB memory standard and bundled with iLife 08.

Well just refreshed but I was surprised that they didn't give the MacMini more oomph in the processor section, perhaps a 2.4GHz Core 2 Duo processor would have been better.

I guess they're gonna keep Mini as the low range desktop solution. Just like Macbook as oppose to MacBook Pro

I guess Apple's goal is to keep the Mini strictly as a home office slash HTPC solution and nothing more. It still beats down all other HTPC designs out there, and quite a few that try to pull off the Mini look, but ending up costing a lot more. (Mini PC, anyone?)

Got my Mac Mini finally. Absolutely fantastic machine. Connected to my LCD TV as media center. Watch movies, listen to mp3, and surf net.

Purfect machine if you are looking for a media center

I've got my Mac mini connected to an LCD TV as a media center too. Gotta love Front Row yeah? smile.gif

kwekeugene, mine's a Samsung 40-incher (1366x768). The Mac mini can handle up to 1920x1080 via VGA and 1920x1200 via DVI which means it can handle a Full HDTV fine as well. smile.gif

Hi kwekeugene,
I'm using a Packard Bell 30" LCD TV. I'm running 1280 x 768 mode.

aaronchin,
wow! that's my dream man! I always wish that I have a 40" LCD TV to connect to. Between, are you able to play rmvb file on front row? I can play almost all the formats (divx, xvid, mkv) but not real media files.

ok guys, here is the deal.
im trying to get the mac mini + Dell 19Widescreen monitor for my bro in law as his first pc. he only wants a basic machine to surf web, watch movies and do office docs and budget below 3k. seeing how he never seen a mac before, this is gonna be a tough sell

would like to know -
1) does the mac mini comes with any apps that can play dvd movies, divx movies, avi/mpg in full screen? i remember last time i used quicktime and i couldnt view full screen bcos its not a pro version

2) Any DVD/CDRW burning software is included? or do i need to get TOAST ?

3) main concern = chat applications. anymore problems with adium?

4) upgrading to 2GB ram- what type of ram does it use and is it easy to upgrade ?

1. the built-in DVD player app handles DVD just fine. Download Flip4Mac, perian or VLC if you want to play WMV and/or divx/xvid stuff. Non-pro Quicktime will play in full screen now, or VLC can handle it for free too.

2. You can burn data discs with the built-in software, pop in a blank DVD and drag files to it. You can also burn ISO files to DVD/CD using the built-in Disk Utility software. You can burn DVD movies using iMovie and/or iDVD. Burn-OSX is an open source CD/DVD burning tool you can use. Toast is still nice though since it supports many features all in one app but it's not exactly needed anymore.

3. I haven't had any problems with adium so far, but there are other chat/IM tools out there. I move around too many different computers so I stick to meebo and forgo some of the fancy stuff.

4. It uses standard SO-DIMM DDR2-667 memory. It's not easy to upgrade unfortunately, better to pay a bit to the Apple certified guy to upgrade it for you. Try not to buy the overpriced RAM at the Apple places biggrin.gif
