Hi
Wanna ask about the problem I am facing with my reno.
Piling done, no major problems with immediate neighbour who shared wall with me, but the house behind my neighbour's house claimed that their glass awning on the left side cracked due to our piling. However, there was already crack on the right side of the awning covered with algae that happened a long time ago. My contractor didn't take any before pictures of the glass awning, but the owner did acknowledge that the right side crack is old. My question : Wouldn't any glass crack render the whole structure weak? What can i do about this neighbour insisting we compensate for the left side crack? They are threatening to report to Majlis. How will Majlis respond and what can I do to defend myself to Majlis?
What can/should i do? I am willing to compensate of truly it is our fault, but I refuse to be bullied into replacing something that already should have been replaced a long time ago.
Any ideas?

Show him you have a 'BIG' heart and a GOOD neighbour ! It doesnt cost much to replace but I know you have your principle .... but what use of principle if is going to start future wars !

Use any leftover glass, if there is one can fit.

Will take the 'good' way I guess. Just hope nothing else comes up, expecting us to 'fix' again.

by looking at the picture, there are glass lines in between every beam. Probably consists of 7x2 pieces with silicon joint. can be replaced individually.

I think won't cost much.. based on the picture posted..
Can change which piece is broken.. then apply silicone on the glass attachment 😁

Don't create issues with neighbors.. if not, your life would be hell with many unnecessary problem.. even if they behind yours house...

That is the last any renovation owner wants council involvement, unless is a serious major disputes. Once the council is in, 'semua pun salah' for ts. .... because is a 'thirsty' day. They can issue a stop work order for a week pending investigation.

If the extension work is not more than 500sqft
council won't fine
if it just normal renovation..

Is not about ts reno mainly. You were saying the neighbour proceed to lodged council complaint about the cracked glass. So the investigation is on how the cracked glass happened and whether is ts fault.

Fine is small matter ...stop work order is the headache part !

Some people just simply gives nonsense and bad advice. This is the first time I heard renovation less than 500sqft the city council wont care. It is not the size of the renovation but the nature and the extent of the renovation that is key. What if it is 300sqft but affecting the structure of the house? what if you are within less than 2 ft of the common boundary?

In any case, the TS did have piling work. There is a chance that piling MAY damage the glass awning and caused it to crack. A reasonable approach is to find out how much to replace a piece of that cracked glass (not the entire awing) and settle with the neighbour. You dont want to create animosity even before you move in. Neighbours will talk. Some people may not care but it is not a good thing if your neighbours all think you are a stingy irresponsible a$$hole
