Good day,
I'm not sure where to post to ask about printer recommendation, Administrator kindly please loop this to the right thread if necessary, thanks ahead!

By taking consideration of office cost saving initiative, with below detail and hopefully someone could shed the light on the printing solution.

Current solution:
- Photostat copier, RM150 per month rental (Ricoh 3501) and extra charge on color paper (RM0.40 per page) and free black printing for 2k pages.

Paper print volume:
- around 2-3k per month printing in black color A4 double-sided
- color printing limited to 10-20pages

Extra features:
Required to do some paper scanning too

Planning:
- Get a brother printer for replacement, not sure whether should go for laser or ink jet, seller recommend me take Ink jet(Brother T710 if recall correctly) to save cost, as refill ink jet quality is better compare to laser OEM toner always print scatter powder on printed paper, and it cost is saving more.

Thanks bro and sis, I'm not familiar with printing solution, need your recommendation !

Laser toner last 10x more than ink jet, is ink jet 10x cheaper?

I used to take care of printers for a medium size company. We went from HP enterprise laser to HP Officejet Enterprise inkjet and back to laser (Ricoh)

In general inkjets are more expensive than laser whether you use original or refill inks.

I recommend a good quality doublesided laser printer or MFP for regular use, and a smaller/cheaper inkjet for the occasional color print.

All right, better stick with laser printer then, I'm sure we will use the OEM toner in future, and I think laser printing show better quality.

I noticed the cheapest Laser printer with features is Brother brand, Is brother good enough or is there any recommendation from anyone here?

I use the cheapest Brother laser MFP (1610W) for home, averaging maybe 100-200 pages per month ie. very low use
It's very reliable but the print quality is sometimes inconsistent and contrast to be too low even when I turn off the print saver features

I only use original Brother toners purchased directly from brother's website. I read online that the printer is a low cost printer and not really designed for top quality printout

You're obviously not going for the cheapest Brother printer in the line so it'll probably be better

If I had a choice I'd go for a printer that's one level up after the cheapest

Fuji Xerox used to have some cheap MFP... and original toner cost about RM150~. (OEM even cheaper, less than RM50)

But I think they longer selling consumer printer...

Toner is expensive when you look at the price but the cost of printing per page is cheaper than inkjet.

The volume you are talking about is not much. It is more economical than renting I believe.

When compared with laser printers, inkjet printers have a lower price partly because:

>inkjet printers have a minimum life span of 3 years,
>whereas laser printers have a lifespan of at least 5 years

and this is all depends on frequency of use. Yes, upfront cost of laser printer is higher than inkjet probably due to this factor. So, about the same? Not really for me.

When printing double sided, I'd say lasers do better job. Ink can be absorbed on cheaper paper and can be traces on the other side.

I'd go with Canon imageCLASS laser printer series with capability to scan print and copy. Why not HP? HP is more expensive due to band name perhaps but the HP laser engine if not mistaken is made by Canon.

If you look at the printer spec you see

Monthly Duty Cycle - 30 000 pages
Monthly Recommended Print Volume - 250 - 2,500 pages

Sounds confusing laugh.gif

Monthly Duty Cycle = The maximum monthly duty cycle is how much your printer can print in a month without causing damage to its parts
Monthly Recommended Print Volume = The recommended monthly print volume is the amount you should print monthly to keep your printer at optimum performance

I'm using one of this series even for home use biggrin.gif

Thanks bro for informative and great sharing, have you used OEM toner, would it cause any damage to Laser printer?

Could you recommend any brand or perhaps printer model for MFP smile.gif

You can go to Canon Malaysia website

https://my.canon/en/consumer/products/searc...=laser-printers

Tick 3-in-1 then A4 Color

I use wireless one, I think imageCLASS MF641Cw. So, no need to pull wire but perhaps you already have wire. I can print direct from Phone since support wireless. Sop price lower than suggested price here.

From my experience of using Inkjet printer at home, I highly recommend a decent Laser printer.
My inkjets printer, cannon or hp, around the 200-400 rm range , would need to replace ink after less then 100 pages.. then you always get paper jam, will need to manually feed paper one by one.
I am looking at entry level laser printer for replacement soon. I see my office obsolete model monochorme laser printer still working fine.

Brother also has good review. If you compare renting than buying this also it is still cheap over long run and 3 years warranty. I'm using only at home laugh.gif
